Chapter Nineteen *Borrowed Clothes & Butterfly Dresses

It was exactly one week after April had called the Tweeter Center.

“April lets get going we have to go pick up Monique before we head to Mansfield.” Her mother called to her from upstairs. April wanted to look professional so she borrowed a skort and top from her older sister, Jennifer.

“Ok, I’m coming.” She said putting on a pair of sandles and running up the stairs. She stopped at the top and did a turn for her mother. “How do I look?”

“You look very pretty. Now lets get a move on.” Her mother opened the door and started to walk outside. April picked up the telephone and called Monqiue to make sure she was ready and to tell her that they would be there soon.

“Ok see you then.” April hung up the phone and walked into the hallway of the complex and closed her door. In the parking lot you could hear a car being started up. April walked out and got into the passenger side and turned on the radio. “Thanks for coming with us mom.” She said. It was the first time she had smiled since the funeral.

“You’re welcome. I don’t have anything better to do on my day off from work.” Her mother said sarcastically. April’s mother was one of the hardest workers that she knew. Even though her mom didn’t have the most glamorous jobs it was on that she took pride in. She owned her own cleaning company and her and April’s sister cleaned houses almost everyday of the week.

“I’m so glad that this week is over. Everyone in school this week has asked me if I was alright. Its so weird.”

“Why is it weird?”

“Well, because everyone at school hates Hanson and since..since Taylor is gone everyone feels terrible.”

“Well they should because he died April.” Her mother kept her eyes on the road. Never looking at April.” A few minutes later they reached Monique’s house. “April go and knock on the door.” April did as she was told and got out of the car and up on the porch. She didn’t have to knock because Monique opened the door just as she was about to.

“Hey.” Monique said. She was wearing a baby blue dress that had a butterfly on it.

“Hey I like your dress.” April had a love for butterflies.

“Thanks. Nice outfit did you raid your sister’s closet again?” Monique laughed and walked down the stairs and opened the door. April didn’t say anything she just got into the car. “Hello.”

“Hi Monqiue you look nice today.” Mrs. Hogan said as she backed out of the driveway and got back onto the highway.

“Thank you. How long is it going to take us to get to Mansfield?”

“About 45 minutes. We should be there right on time.” The drive was basically spent in silence with a few words being spoken here and there. It was the Spring time and in Massachusetts it was so beautiful. All of the flowers were coming in bloom. There was one patch of land that had what they thought were a million lilacs. Mrs. Hogan opened the windows to let in the smell. It was breath taking. as they got closer and closer to the Tweeter Center the girls got nervous. What were they to say? What if they guy didn’t want them to have the vigil? They had to keep a postive attitude and that is what they did.
