Mrs. Hogan grabbed the ticket to the parking garage at the Tweeter Center. “Mom right there you just missed a parking spot.” April said pointing to the spot as they drove by it.
“You know that I park next to the elevators.” Her mother said pulling into a spot near the elevator. She shut the car off and took the key out of the ignition. Everyone exited the car and walked slowly to the elevator which was to the right of them.
“Monique hit the B.” April said to Monique. She pushed the “B” button which meant bottom. It took about five minutes to get to the bottom level of the parking garage. Finally they were out and walking towards the big building on the opposite street of the Tweeter Center itself.
“Big building.” Monique said looking up at the high rise building. April laughed at her friend’s comment and opened the door and held it open for her mother and Monique. Mrs. Hogan walked to the front desk and talked to the person behind it while the girls stayed back near the doors. “What are we going to say to him?” Monique whispered to April.
“I don’t know. Just explain to him what we have been saying over and over again.” Both girls were extremely nervous they had never went before someone.
“At least we have your mom here.”
“I wish it was my dad. He always knows what to say to someone.” April said. Her mother told her to come to her.
“We have to go to the seventh floor.” She said walking towards the elevators. They got in and watched the numbers flash telling them which floor that they were on. The gold doors opened and they went to the right towards Mr. Garret’s office. “April you are talking. You are the one that made this appointment.”
“Hi, may I help you?” An old lady asked smiling at them.
“Yes, we have an appointment to see Mr. Garret. I’m April Hogan.” April smiled at the lady.
“Oh yes please hold.” The lady pressed a button and Mr. Garret answered and said to send them in. Mrs. Hogan, Monique, and April walked past the secretary and through the cherry wood doors and into an incredible looking office. A middle aged man got up from his desk, buttoned the bottom button on his sport’s jacket, and proceeded to walk to where they were.
“Ms. Hogan?” He looked around not knowing which one was April.
“That is me, Mr. Garret.” April extended her right and shook his.
“Well, please come and sit down.” He went back and sat behind his desk. Everyone took a seat. “Please tell me about why you want to use the Tweeter Center.”
“Well, Mr. Garret, as you probably know Taylor Hanson has committed suicide and we are huge fans of him and his brothers, Isaac and Zachary.” April stopped. Her father always told her that when she was giving a speech to take pauses so the person could think about what she just said. “On June 26th it will be the one year anniversary of the concert that was held here. My friend, Monique and I were wondering if we could possibly use outside of the Tweeter Center to hold a candle light vigil.” She stopped there to see the look on his face. You could tell he was thinking. At least he is considering it. Oh please God help us here. April thought to herself as she looked at the ground.
“I think that is a very good idea to hold a vigil. I don’t know if the Tweeter Center is free that date let me check it out. Excuse me.” He said walking out of his office. April turned to Monique for reassurance.
“April he is considering it at least. Just have hope.”
“Now you sound like me, Mo. I just hope we can. This means so much to us. We need to do this not for us but for Taylor.” April put her head in her hands. What she didn’t know was Mr. Garret was standing there listening to what the girls had to say. Now he was sure to let them us it.
“Girls I have considered your proposal.” The girls looked back at him with hope in their eyes.
“I think that what you are doing is very good and kind. You are showing that even though what you are going through is painful you are keeping his memory in your minds. You are two strong young ladies.” He said putting his hands on both of their shoulders. April and Monique looked at each other and blushed they didn’t considered themselves in any way, shape, or form strong. “You may use the Tweeter Center to have your vigil, but I don’t you guys outside in the parking lot. You can use inside to hold it.”
“Mr. Garret what about the money? We don’t have that much.” Monique said speaking up for the first time since they got there.
“No, I don’t want your money. I just want to thank you for wanting to use the facilities. If you want I can contact the news crews. You two should be recognized.” The girls just smiled at him.
“It was Monique’s idea I just called.” April said giving her friend a huge hug.
“Then its set. My secretary has your name and phone numbers. We’ll keep in touch.”
“Thank you very much. You don’t know how much this means to us. Not only us, but the fans.” April said shaking his hand. Monique and Mrs. Hogan did the same and they walked out.
“I can’t believe this is happening.” Monique said walking back towards the parking garage. Happiness once again filled the two girls lives again. They were doing something not only for themselves but for Taylor. Someone that they didn’t even know personally, but who they knew as a performer someone sent from above.
