Chapter Twenty-One *What America Needs*

A week after the meeting was like a blur to Monique and April. April was sleeping over Monique’s house and they were in the living room watching television. Nothing was really on so they decided to watch the news out of complete boredom.

“Good evening I’m Lindsi Morgan. Tonight’s cover story is about bravery and courage that two young girls have. After the death of teen hearthrob Taylor Hanson something triggered in two girls. On June 26th it will be the one year anniversary of the Great Woods concert that Hanson performed. The special thing about it was that it was their first United States concert. The girls, Monique LaLiberte and April Hogan, called the Tweeter Center and set up an appointment with President of the Tweeter Center Anthony Garret. We bring you now to Mansfield for more on this story.” Monique and April looked at each other in awe. They couldn’t believe that they were mentioned on the news as brave. They turned the volume up on the television when the news came back from commerical.

“These two girls came to my office last Saturday to ask me a question. They wanted to use the Tweeter Center’s parking lot to hold a candle light vigil in memory of Mr. Hanson. At first I didn’t know if it was a good idea. So I left the room to go and talk to a few people about it. They thought it was a good idea, but I didn’t know. I then opened the door and overheard the two girls talking. One of them, April was crying. After what they had said to each other made me even sure that they could hold the vigil.” Mr. Garret said.

“Well, if you’re a Hanson fan and would like to come to the vigil. It will be held on June 26th at the Tweeter Center. Bring candles, but if you don’t have any they are going to be donated by the Yankee Candle Shop. It will be held from 7:00-10:30 with guest speakers and you will hear from the two girls hopefully. So girls if you are watching get thinking on your speeches. You two are what America needs in its youth. Someone who wants to make things better in a difficult situation. Who has respect for the dead and always wants them to be remebered for things that they did and not how they died. This is Lindsi Morgan for the 11 o’clock news.” The television went blank.

“Wow. What are we going to say?” Monique said to April. April just looked at her and smiled. “What?”

“What that lady said about us. How we are what America needs. We just wanted to have the fans stick together that is all. Now we are what America needs in its youth.” April looked at Monique and they both hugged each other.

“A job well done.” The both said in unison. Both of them started to laugh at what they had said to each other. It was a job well done. They were doing what was right. Someone needed to keep everyone toghether and they were the ones choosen to do it.
