Chapter Five *Across From The Cemetary*

“Well it was nice meeting you Mariah. Maybe we’ll see you around town. If not here is my address and stuff.” April said handing her a piece of paper.

“Thanks. Keep in touch.” Mariah said walking away with the group she came with. The three girls of Dynasty and one mother slowly walked to baggage claim in silence.

Silence. April thought to herself. That is how Taylor is right now. She continued to think. In the distance church bells chimed the hour, one o’clock. April’s mom broke her train of thought.

“April your bag is coming.”

“Huh?”

“Your bag....LOOK!”

“Oh.” She said grabbing her suitcase. That was the final bag that had to be gotten from baggage claim.

“Well girls c’mon lets get a cab.” Mrs. Hogan said. The four of them got into a cab and made their way to their hotel. On the way to the hotel they passed a cemetery.

“I wonder if that is where they are going......” Amy started crying.

“Amy its okay.” Monique said as she comforted her cousin. Amy cried into Monique’s shoulder the whole way to the hotel. It took about fifteen minutes to get there.

“That will be $12.50 miss.” The cab driver said to Mrs. Hogan. She looked inside her wallet and handed him $20.00.

“Keep the change.”

“Thanks.” He said taking the money. “I’ll help you with your bags.” He opened the trunk and started putting the luggage onto the sidewalk. When the suitcases where on the sidewalk everyone started bringing it up to the hotel.

“Oh let me get those.” April said taking the two dozen yellow pansies out. The cab driver looked puzzled.

“Excuse me but may I ask why you have so many flowers?” April looked up at him with tears in her eyes. For the first time in the past eight days she cried in front of someone other than Monique and her mother. “If you don’t want to tell me that’s OK. I just wanted to know because so many teenagers have them.”

“Well because we are going to through them on the streets when when Taylor Hanson’s coffin passes.”

“Oh I’m sorry about his death. The whole city has been mourning it.” The cab driver said. “Well I have to go now. Nice meeting you um...” April looked up and smiled. The cab driver was shocked. He hadn’t seen a smiling face all day.

“April.”

“Excuse me?”

“My name. Its April.”

“Oh. Well nice meeting you April. Don’t worry everything will be OK.” He said putting his strong tanned hand on her shoulder. He shut the trunk and drove away.

“Oppie?” Monique said. April had been standing facing the cemetery for ten minutes after the cab left.

“April are you okay?” Amy came out. The three girls stood there talking for a few minutes. “Well I’m a little tired and hungry. I can’t stand looking at this cemetery anymore.” She said walking into the hotel. Monique and April soon followed.
