Balloon Fight is one of the first NES games and it is a really good game considering its c.1984 release date. There are two modes to play. The first mode is the balloon pop. You can play with one or two players. The object is to clear the screen of the enemies. To do so, you must pop his balloon by touching it, and then kick him when he lands on the ground. (by touching him.) Your balloons can also be popped by your enemies. You, however, have two ballons. There is also a lake at the bottom of the screen that has a monster in it that will eat you if you get to close to the water. Each level has more enemies and different objects in the sky, like lightning boats. There is also a mode called Balloon Trip, in which the screen scrolls right to left and you have to pop 50 balloons without touching anything.
And after every 3 levels, you reach a bonus stage. In this you must pop all the balloons that come out of the four pipes. The graphics aren't anything great, but does any mid-80s NES game have great graphics? The music is very cool, especially if you dig those cheesey casio keyboards some bands like the Hippos have. The only downside of the game is that all the levels are the same and they can get very boring after you reach the 12th level. It is a great two player, original game.
