Life Through A Lens 9
Mood:  chillin'

Hola fans! How's things going with all of you? Sorry I didn't have the opportunity to write this blog sooner as I wanted to (per my FB post a couple of weeks ago), but things here have been hectic, plus I'm still in shock of what happened here in Boston. It is inconceiveable what transpired and it still seems like it was from a bad movie. I am glad they did capture one of the suspects and justice will be served is all I'm saying. The bands' hearts go out to all the victims whom perished, including the MIT officer, as well who were injured. We only pray for a speedy healing process. I am quite glad that we, as a city, are slowly bringing normalcy to our daily lives. Many thanks goes to the law enforcement personallel during the blast/hunt for the monster, as well as normal citizens who rushed in to help the bombing victims. Won't you please help the victims, but donating to the Boston One fund? It was set up by Gov Patrick and Boston Mayor Menino?:

www.onefundboston.org

Now for some happier news: our show we did 2 weeks ago at the Asgard was quite enjoyable, to say the least. We introduced some new covers, such as Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" and Jet's "Cold Hard Bitch". We also brought back the Gin Blossom's "Follow You Down" and Led Zep's "Rock N Roll". We can't wait to perform back there again in about 2 and a half weeks. We have a great  time when we play there. Hopefully, we'll see you at the next show there. Always a pleasure seeing you/meeting new fans!

I have a couple of solo acoustic shows coming up as well, starting this coming Friday at my usual haunt in Plainville, MA. I will be doing some new songs that I started performing last time I played there: U2's "With or Without You", Foo Fighter's "Walk" , Green Day's "Time of Your Life" and the Stereophonic's "We Share the Same Sun" (in case you aren't familiar with the Stereophonics, they are a Welsh band and are huge in the U.K. They have a lot of great songs and one of theirs was a minor hit here in the U.S. back in 2007 called "Dakota". Kelly Jones has a great voice. You should check them out on Youtube). Right, it's time for me to stop e-blabbing and grab something to eat. I'll see you all later. Until next time, "FS brigade...."

Mood:  bright
Now Playing: Stereophonic's "Graffiti on the Train" album

What's everyone up to? I hope all is well and that wherever you are, you are enjoying the weather. Finally here in Boston, the temps are slightly mild and it was sunny today. Gives one hope of better days ahead. Speaking of days, my solo acoustic show last night at Game 7 Sports Bar was one of the best gigs I have done as a solo performer. I've never seen the place so packed! I had to wait an hour longer than usual to set my gear up and even whilst I was doing so, there were people still waited to be seated. Nothing like a great feeling when you have the audience sing along with you and hang on every word you sing. I added some new material to my set last night: "Walk" (Foo Fighters); "American Girl" (Tom Petty); "Without or Without You" (U2) and an album track from the Stereophonic's new album called "We Share the Same Sun", as well as some songs I haven't played in quite some time. I was able to book some gigs there in the coming months. So, big thanks to those who attended my show last night.

Now on to the next big show: Freudian Slip's monthly appearance at the Asgard Irish Pub in Cambridge, MA on Saturday, April 13th. We have some new material to showcase, so we hope you can attend to find out what songs they are and enjoy dancing all night long. Remember, if you ever have any requests for us to do, do not hesitate to let us know, either by comments here, on our official Facebook page or via email: freudianslip5@aol.com.

Quite sad to hear of the passing of one of the best producers in the last 30 years: Phil Ramone. He produced alot of great artists, like Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and Frank Sinatra (to name a few). May he rest in peace. Before I go, I'd like to take this time to wish our fans a Happy, blessed Easter. May it be filled with joy and good times spent with family. Until next time, "FS brigade".....

Now Playing: radio

So sorry it's been a long while since my last blog, but things have been hectic here and such (not including dealing with this crazy ass winter here in Boston this year!). Anyway, I hope all of you are doing well where ever you are residing.

I'm quite sad that Boston Phoenix is closing after all this time. An institution here, that's for sure. This is where I came across Paul's ad back in 1999 when I was putting FS together (has it been that long? damn, these years are flying by!).

FS's monthly concert at the Asgard Irish Pub (Cambridge, MA) went really well this past weekend, as we also included some news songs in our repetoire: The Beastie Boy's "Fight For Your Right (To Party), Collective Soul's "Shine" and White Cherry's "Play That Funky Music". The crowd ate it up, which was pleasing to us. They couldn't stop dancing and (as usual), many thanks to all the girls who helped me on tambourine! ;) We can't wait to perform back there again on April 13th, as we have some other new songs to play for you.

Speaking of our last gig, big thanks goes to our friend Phil for taking pictures and a few vids of us that night. Head over to our official Facebook page to check them out (and do comment-that's if you have Facebook-which who doesn't nowadays really?): https://www.facebook.com/pages/Freudian-Slip/224905890897281?fref=ts

I'll be doing an solo acoustic show at the end of March, back Game 7 Sports bar (formerly Pan City Sports Bar). I've got some new songs as well in the repetoire and can't wait to perform them (including an new original). So I do hope you show up. Right, time to get off and face the music: gotta do my dishes! Until next time, "FS brigade"......

Now Playing: Stereophonics

What can I say troops, last night's concert at the Asgard with the lads went very well. Let's just say non stop partying as we played. Where shall I start once again? First of all, I had a bevy of girls come up to help me out on tamborine (which is always a great adreniline booster). I even had one girl hand me a rose!  Second, our friend Billy and his band mate Skip from Dope Slap hopped on stage and played drums and bass respectively on "Rock n Roll", which I then let Bryan sing the lead vocals. Speaking of songs, we did Nirvana's "Smell Like Teen Spirit" for the first time there and it went over really well (it's been about 2 years since FS played that one, so I thought of bringing it back). Last but not least, the crowd was so into us that we played an encore that lasted over a half an hour! Always humbled by the crowds reaction and love for us. Thanks to management at the Asgard for letting us play that long in our concert. We received so many compiments, including one from a former co-worker of the Asgard who told me that we are the best band he has ever seen, even whilst he worked at the venue. Very nice of him to say that.

To those who joined our Facebook tonight and went to the show, I would be grateful if you can post the pics you took of us on our official Facebook page (and of course, I'd give you props).  Well, time for this tired musician to hit the sack. Until next time, "FS brigade"......

Now Playing: Oasis "Time Flies-best of 1993-2009"

Where shall I start? Just returned from my band's show at the Asgard in Cambridge, MA. It's 3:25am here, and I'm still trying to process it all in and catch my breath. I have two words to describe the show we just did: f##ckin' brilliant! From the get go, I knew our night would be electric. So many factors helped:  a few tamborine players were quite helpful during our sets (including two of my cousins and one aunt), some dude who just happened to walk by and stopped in front of the open window near us and started dancing. So we invited him in the venue and he tore up the dance floor with some of the ladies in the audience. Another cool factor was we invited up a singer named Jessie (who fronts a band called Dope Slap with our fill in drummer Billy Knyff).  She sang "Rock n Roll (by Led Zep) and later did "Play That Funky Music White Boy" (which took me by surprise, as I didn't know my band knew "Play That Funky Music White Boy". I guess you do learn something new every day! She killed it on this song. Jessie helped me with backups as well on a song. I believe one of my cousin's took a short vid of us performing, as well as a patron who took a bunch of pics of us in action (he will be posting the pics up on our Facebook page, so props to both my cousin and -I think his name was Kwan-my mind usually is mush by the end of a concert, so my bad if that name isn't correct). I must say, the Asgard was quite pleased and will be booking shows there sometime this week for 2013. Our next show there will be Saturday, August 11th. Again, thanks to Billy Knyff for filling in for our drummer Bryan, who had DJ obligations.

Now my acoustic show Friday night at Limey's Pub in Norwood, MA went quite well too. I was quite happy when the venue filled up during my first set and stayed pretty much the same throughout the night. I played a few songs I haven't performed in quite some time there (like I did at last week's Medway Cafe show), such as "Every Rose" (Poison), "Everybody's on the Run" (Noel Gallagher), and "I'm Only Sleeping" (Beatles). Right, going off now to "try" to get some beauty sleep. It's always a fight to sleep after a concert, but we shall see what transpires. Until next time, "FS brigade".....

Now Playing: The Beatles

Hello all my "FS brigade" troops! I hope everything is fine where ever you are residing in the planet. We have been quite busy with gigs, with 2 that we did last weekend. The first one, was a solo gig by yours truely at my regular stint at Medway Cafe. Went quite well and nothing major happened that would warrent me to say I was a klutz this time! (lol). Added some songs I haven't done in quite some time, such as the Beatles "I've Just Seen A Face" and Tonic's "If You Can Only See". The band's gig Saturday night at Fusion in Foxboro, MA was quite fun. It felt good for once playing in a massive stage and not worry about me bumping into poor Paul every so often (to those who see me live, you know how animated I can be on stage).  Joe was the one animated this time around, rolling around on the floor and playing bass behind his back.  I quite enjoyed seeing him do this and made our concert more enjoyable. A good time was had by all (especially my band). Now to concentrate on the next to concerts this weekend. Once again, this Friday I'm doing another solo acoustic gig at a new venue I've been playing at for the last 2 months called Limey's Pub in Norwood, MA). I enjoy playing here as it's a nice atmosphere and the sound travels. Saturday night is another band gig, at one of our haunts called the Asgard Pub in Cambridge, MA. Unfortunately, Bryan can't make it as he's doing a DJ gig (or as some would like to call Bryan, "DJU4EA" (check him out on Facebook). So our friend Billy Knyff is kind enough to fill in. So far our summer is going great.

Anyone seen the new "Ted" film yet? I saw it last week and I must say, I enjoyed it. So much so I laughed so hard during one scene, I needed my asthma inhaler (I know, you're wondering: a lead singer with asthma? interesting!).  If you haven't seen it and you are a fan of Family Guy (like I am), then check it out! Well, gotta run as I'm about to work on some songs. Until next time "FS brigade".....

Now Playing: Oasis "Time Flies-best of 1993-2009"

Greetings FS troops. It's been quite some time since I last blogged to you, but things here have been hectic one way or another. In that time frame, I've performed acoustically at a new venue called Limey's Pub in Norwood, MA, as well as the band booking a new venue called Fusion in Foxboro, MA (we performed at this venue a few years ago when it was the End Zone). Paul, Joe, Bryan and I are quite pumped to be playing at this venue, as it's known as one of the popular places in the area. Rehearsal for this gig will be in a week or two. Speaking of gigs, Bryan won't be able to drum for us at the Asgard show, so our friend Billy Knyff is kind enough to fill in. Things are picking up musically, and I can't be happier!

On the down side however, I had  to cancel my acoustic show at Medway Cafe a few weeks go, because I had an infection on my finger-on the hand where I play on the guitar fret-just my luck I tell ya! I am fine now. It's VERY rare I have to cancel a gig, but when I do, I get bummed, cos music is in my blood.

Anyone into the Boston Red Sox like I am? I know their standing at the moment aren't good, but you win some, you lose I suppose (they do stink this year, I am not gonna lie). What do you think of Kevin Youkalis's trade? Personally I think it's a good one.

Before I head off (and I know this is old news) but RIP to Adam Yauch ("MCA"). He was a great rapper and considering I love old school rap, the Beastie Boys are one of my faves. Right, gotta go and it's time to eat some Chinese food. Until next time "FS brigade...."

Greetings troops, this is your General typing. Hope all is well where you are today. What a whirlwind last 2 weekends it has been for the band and I! Did 2 gigs both nights of Friday/Saturday and boy did it feel good. The show we did this past Friday at Patrick's Pub in Providence, RI went well. One patron couldn't help himself and jumped on stage to sing some backup. That's what's it's all about right?  Let the music capture the people, any way possible! One thing that got me on a low was my bloody foot switch to distort my guitar was on the blink (no pun intended!), so had to play the distored parts clean. Oh well, that's the nature of playing live I reckon. We certainly got a lot of compliments after the concert for our performance. Felt damn good, I must confess! The band was on fire, I'll admit.

My solo acoustic debut last night at a new venue called Limey's Pub (Norwood, MA) went over well too. Nice little venue that place. Props goes to my friend Kristina for checking out the gig, as she has been wanting to check me out for quite some time. Glad she enjoyed my show. I had the crowd at the palm of my hand and management was very nice and really was blown away by my show. I'd say they want me back soon!  Phew, tired just typing about these past performances. In with that "FS brigade", I bid you adieu....I do.

Life Thru A Lens
Mood:  a-ok

Greeting troops. Hope all is well where ever you may be residing. Things here have been quite busy for me and the boys, as this month of April will be seeing us quite busy. First off, I have a solo acoustic show at my monthly residency at Medway Cafe (Medway, MA), followed the next day with the whole band raisin' the roof at the Kinsale Pub in downtown Boston.  Then throughout the month, the gigs are peppered with another band gig and 2 other solo acoustic shows by moi. Phew! Just tired of typing about it! LOL  Bryan is still kind enough to be manning the drums. He is doing a great job (and one hell of a funny guy. Keeps me laffing me arse off, which keeps me younger than I am).

FS would like to wish everyone of you a Happy Easter/Happy Passover (whichever holiday you celebrate). We hope it's filled with fun and blessings (and by the way, don't eat too much Easter candy folks, not good for ya).  If of course you've been a good girl/boy this Easter, I might post a little surprise up on the band's official Facebook page soon. Right, heading off now, so until next time "FS brigade".........

Your commander n chief,

Frankie
