~ Mommy's Comments ~

On saturday July 3rd, I was at my Mom's and my water broke (not that I knew what was happening).  I went to the hospital and was admitted at 5:20pm, I was only dilated 1cm.  They hooked me up to the monitors and didn't want me to get out of bed, but they did let me up a few times to go to the bathroom. I was having some contractions but really couldn't feel them.  At around 6:30 my contractions were a little stronger but not consistant.  The doctor came in and tried to hook up an internal fetal monitor to the baby's head, she tried twice and couldn't get it.  It was painful.  My labor was all in my back, so with me moving around at times the baby's heart beat wasn't picking up.  So at 9:00 she finally got it hooked up and I was dilated 2 - 3cm with contractions about every 5 minutes.  My Mom, sister-in-law and DH were all with me the whole time.  At about midnight the nurse we better get some sleep, I was so uncomfortable, I did fall asleep in between contractions and thankfully my SIL helped me with my breathing.  I only went to 2 child birth classes then that's when my step dad was in the hospital before passing away, so I missed the rest of them.  She was such a big help. I threw up with most of the contractions and they did give me a shot for it and for the pain, but not until 4:30am, then I was dilated to 5cm.  By this time I was begging my Mom to tell them I wanted a c-section, and I did mention an epideral, but my SIL said no, I said from the beginning I didn't want one, and now I'm glad that I didn't have one.  I was miserable, my Mom was only in labor for 2 hours and my doctor said she thought I'd go fast like her, well as you can see it didn't work that way, I thought by 8:30pm I would have had her and I was wrong.  So at 5:15am I was 6cm and then at 7am I was to 9cm.  I was so tired I could barely breath through the contractions and I was so dry they wouldn't let me drink anything, so I didn't have a drink for 14 hours.  I started pushing and at 7:35am Alexa Star was born. A 4th of July baby, everyone calls her a firecracker.  I only saw a glimpse of her as they were taking her to clean her up and I thought she looked like my Grandpap, with that little round face.  I really liked the birthing room I was in, they didn't have to take the baby out of the room, they did everything there.   They held her upside down to get measure her length.  DH almost died, he thought something was wrong with her, lol.  When I finally got to hold her I thought she was just beautiful.  She just laid there looking up at me.  It was wonderful and all the pain went away.  She is my little star.  I thought I'd never have a baby after trying for years and not getting pregnant, and now I can't imagine life without her.  I love her so much. She has brought so much joy to my family, with my step dad passing away on Memorial Day, she has filled the empty space in my Mom's life.  When things get rough all I have to do is look at my little shining star and she makes everything better.  I love to see her smile and hear the little sounds she makes.  And I can't wait for the day she can call me Mommy.  My life is so different now and it's all because of her.
