Bethany Mae...Saturday's Child "...Saturday's child works hard for a living.."

Bethany is my third daughter. As of this writing, she is also my only teenager. She is a very bright, articulate young lady. Let me tell you a little about her.

Bethany is my husband's first child. She was a gorgeous baby having dark, curly hair and dark eyes.

She was a breast fed baby and absolutely refused a bottle! If not for her Aunt Lynn, who kept her while we worked, she would have been a very hungry little girl. Lynn would bring her to my job at the local hospital to nurse. Sometimes she had to bring her twice in one day, but usually once was enough. Bethany nursed until I became pregnant with her little sister Iva. At that time, we both were glad to give it up.

She walked and talked very early. She loved to be read to and had a gazillion books. This made her come to appreciate reading, and to this day can't turn down a good book!

When Bethany started school she went to Greenhill Elementary School. She was so excited about going! The school was twenty miles from our home and she had to meet the bus at six forty-five in the morning! This did not deter her interest and she was an excellent student. At the beginning of the year her teacher took her to other teacher's classrooms to have them hear her read.

Bethany was glad when her big sister Dana got a car and started driving to school. She loved being dropped off and picked up by Dana, and it meant no more early morning bus trips. She loved school and was off to a good start.

Bethany has continued to do well in school. She is now in seventh grade and is getting interested in other things besides books and homework....namely, BOYS! She is reminded to keep her mind on the important "stuff", boys will come later. :=)

AWARDS DAY, MAY 26,1999-Bethany won two awards today from school. The first was a "Citizenship Award" and also the award for "Most Helpful Student". We were all very proud of her!

Bethany turned thirteen a few weeks ago. She is getting into the typical "teenager mode". She goes blank when asked to do something, as if either she doesn't understand English any longer, or she has no earthly idea HOW to "clean your room". Having been through this twice already with Dana and Lacy, I don't worry too much....this too will pass.

She is constantly on the go. Her friends Ashley R., Ashley M., Crystal, and Shannon create a steady flow of things to do and places to go!

She is active in the church youth group, and is sincere in her devotion to their projects. Her heart is as big as it gets and she carries the burdens of everyone's misfortunes on her shoulders at times. This is as much a curse as it is a blessing, since so many circumstances that cause her to feel a heavy sense of sadness and empathy cannot be changed. It speaks highly of her heart, especally as a teenager, that she worries about the world. This is one thing I see in all my children so far. Their concern for others makes me proud! I would like to think they learned it from me.

Bethany and I are beginning to have a little more of an adult relationship now. Occasionally she will talk to me about things that are on her mind, and I think she's beginning to see that I am her friend too, and not just her mother. I hope that we can continue with this, so she will always feel that there is nothing she cannot discuss with me. I want her to realize that I am here for her, and will always do my best to give her the support, advice and love she needs to get through life.

Beth has asked me to put a few of her favorite links on her page. Although there are very few, if any on the other pages, I am happy to do this for her.

I love you my dear Bethany Mae...with all my heart, Momma
