You’re too good to be true,
Can’t take my eyes off of you
You’d be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much.
-Can't Take My Eyes Off of You, Lauren Hill

Chapter 3

I was frozen in thought at what had just happened.  He always blew in and out like that; a warm wind, a gentle ocean wave.  It felt like a war within my stomach.  I was in awe at what I was feeling; how strongly I loved him with every inch of my being; how when I looked into his eyes, I felt like I had found everything I had always been missing. And somehow, I had seen something similar in his eyes; and that was scary and amazing, so I tried my hardest to talk myself out of it.

“Holy Shit!” I heard Angie saying through the haze.

“He is exquisite.” Nikki’s voice came in clearer.

I sighed.  I was probably overdramatizing again.  I tended to do that...constantly.

“Are you with us Giz?” Angie maternally questioned with her hand patting my arm.

“I don’t know,” I replied.  My voice was shaking now.  I was not remaining calm and collected any longer.  I felt overrun with emotion, it rattled me to my core.  Don’t cry Kel, I thought.  I couldn’t stand seeing fans cry (unless they were at a concert).  But I wanted.  Just like a child I wanted.  I willed him to come back right then.  I felt the insatiable desire to run after him, grab his large arms and wrap them around me.  I wanted to protect myself in him.

“The bus is moving.” commented Nikki, slyly.

“I think I see him signing autographs.” Angie was glancing down the hallway out the door.

All of a sudden, I didn’t want to see him anymore.  Angie grabbed my hand. “C’mon Giz.” she ordered.  We shimmied our way out the doors, the doorman glancing at us as he opened them.  I wanted to turn around and almost did, but Angie gripped my hand once again, pulled me out, and pushed me into a small group waiting for pictures with and autographs from the tall young man who stood inches away.  He was looking more baffled than anything else.  He was uncomfortable with the swoons.  Despite accusations of him being cocky, you could clearly see that he did not understand all this.

Nick put his arm carefully on a girl’s shoulder.  She was dressed in a revealing low cut tank top despite the 40 degree weather, a short black skirt and high boots.  She looked like she was trying to pass for 25 but was really 13.  The camera flashed as the girl beamed and Nick smirked his trademark half grin.

I felt Angie’s hand on my arm.  I began to breathe deeply.

“Here we go again.” I said under my breath.  Angie was unzipping my backpack. She took out the small package wrapped neatly from the confines.  She pressed it into my palm.  I stood waiting my turn; like a child waiting to sit on Santa’s lap.

A small commotion took place to the right of me.  Another bus had pulled up in front of the hotel and a wave of conversation increased.  Another one of the boys was here.  Nick looked in that direction, just past me as he was posing for another photo.  He smiled as he pulled his eyes back toward me.  I could do nothing but smile back, albeit crooked.  The girl stepped away thanking Nick.  He nodded at her, whispering an inaudible welcome.       It was my turn...

...again....

I still felt excitement, but it wasn’t nervous, it was just happiness.  I stepped forward as he grinned.

“Hey again!” he said in the squeaky voice only Nick could pull off.

“Hey Nick!” I replied.  Saying his name made the situation feel more real.  OK, I thought what do I say now?  He picked up the slack, he was used to this.

“Come here!” He extended his arms outward to me.  I inched toward him.  I was afraid that if I went into them I would refuse to come out.  I slid easily underneath his left arm.  He moved his large hand lightly across my upper back and rested his hand protectively on my shoulder.  The hairs on my neck stood up straight.  I slid my hand across the back of his waist, resting my finger on one of his belt loops.  For a moment I rested the side of my head against the shiny material of his sports vest, close to the center of his chest, but I quickly looked up, aware of the liberty I was taking.  Nick shined his grin and motioned his head in the forward direction toward a camera clad Nikki.  I remained looking at him though.

“Nick....could you do me a favor?” I asked sweetly.  I could come to call this voice I was using my “Nicky voice”, I reserved it solely for him.

“For you?” Nick chuckled, “Anything baby.”  I felt his fingers on my back.

I giggled.  “Could you REALLY smile for my picture?  I mean, you know?, Don’t just smirk like you normally do.”

“Smirk?  ME?” Nick pretended surprise.

    “Pleeease?” I begged.

“I will give you my BEST smile, baby.” he replied, “but only for YOU, the girl with the nicest smile I know.”  Now he became a bit shy and giggled a little. We both looked toward Nikki’s camera as she and Angie both snapped a picture of us.  Nick looked down to me once again and smiled.  I was still looking at Nikki as I saw her make a squeezing gesture with her hand.  I then saw her mouth, “this is your chance, Kel”.      I slowly stopped playing with Nick’s belt loop as my mind spun.  I began moving my palm southward.  His butt was not easy to miss, it was plump, and firm, and suddenly, I was giving it a playful rubdown while I teasingly looked back into Nick’s marvelous blue eyes.  They were the color of a caribbean sea.  His eyebrows lifted, as he chuckled lightly, dropped his eyes, and blushed.

“I’m sorry...” I responded delicately, “but I just couldn’t resist.”  With that, he gazed down, his lips in a pout, and slowly  moved his hand from my shoulder, down my mid back to my rear.  I felt chills all over, and was instantly turned on.  Yet I continued to rub him lightly as he reciprocated more firmly.  Finally we both burst out in laughter, each turning red.

“I brought this gift for you.”  I handed Nick the package that I had wrapped neatly for him.

“For me?  You shouldn’t have done this!” he tactfully began opening the gift with great interest.  Inside the paper he found a black leather wallet.

“You can’t lose this one, though.” I joked referring to his wallet theft earlier in the year.  “And see, you can put your passport and your credit cards and everything all together.”

“Wow,” he muttered.  “that’s so thoughtful.  This is a really nice wallet!”.  There was more to the gift and he moved on, making a gesture as if saying “something else?”. The next was a clear plastic box with 6 pushpin people stuck into cork.

“It’s an ancient Guatemalan guardian angel...type...thingie.” I explained.  “You talk to them before you go to bed and tell them your problems and they’ll work on them over night for you...”  Nick checked the box out laughing.  “I know it’s kinda stupid...” I explained before he cut me off.

“NO!” he spoke up defensively, “it’s not stupid at all; it’s sweet, and uh...well...it’s original...it’s a gift I’ll never forget.”

“I’m so glad u like it,” I beamed giddily.

“Thank you...Thank you so much.” Nick came toward me and before I knew it both his strong arms were wrapped around me.  I rested my head on his chest as he squeezed and slowly slid one hand down to mine as we parted.

“I see Billy giving me the ‘we gotta go’ signal” Nick said observing me.

“Oh...wait!  An autograh!” I blurted as I reached into my clown car coach bag.  I was, afterall, above anything else, a fan.  I pulled out my millennium cd cover and a sharpie.  I handed it to him while saying, “To Kelly.”

Billy walked toward us and looked at me.  “Nick has to go” he barked.

“Just one sec...” Nick answered concentrating on balancing his gifts and signing the autograph.  He did hastily and handed the cover and marker back to me.

“We’re going to the game tonight,” I told him as he got all his bearings, opening up his backpack and putting the gifts into it.  The boys were singing the National Anthemat the home opener Pistons game.

“Great!” he replied.  “I’ll see you there!” With that, he turned and headed for the bus.  He stopped after a few steps and turned back toward me.  I was watching his every movement.  “Nice meeting you Kelly” the sound on my name on his lips was like the Hallelujah chorus.  “Very nice.” he gave me the once over, starting from my feet and up to my eyes.  I almost fell down when they met his.  It was the most intense look anyone had ever given me.  He turned back and took four long strides through a crowd, his bodyguard with one arm across him, and bounded onto his bus.

I looked down at my Millennium CD cover.  Nick had signed over his picture in the booklet.  It read:  “To Kelly with the beautiful smile, Love always, Nick Carter, BSB”. I smiled radiantly at that moment, not knowing that Nick was watching me from his bus.  I sighed and decided to try to find my friends.
