Chapter 6
I was in a jungle. There were vast lush trees and the foreign sounds
of animals all
around me. Night was closing in and I was all alone. I had to find it. I
sauntered for
awhile, looking around me as the late day sunlight streamed through the
trees. It was
nowhere to be found. I began to run. I heard something behind me, chasing
me, and I
was powerless to run any faster. Where was it? I screamed as I tripped and
hit the
ground, plummeting into a dark hole. I grabbed at air, I was falling so
fast, so fast and so
far away from it. I had never felt fear like this.
I sat up in bed. The bright morning sun filtered in through the open
hotel room
window. I was gasping for air.
“Look who’s awake,” Angie called to Nikki who was in the bathroom.
“How you
feelin’ Giz?” I was too frightened to realize how bad I was feeling.
“Terrible,” I replied. “I just had the worst dream.”
“That last Long Island Iced Tea probably did it!” returned Angie
sarcastically.
“OW!” I whined as I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my head. “What
the hell
happened last night?” Angie just looked at me and laughed.
*****
“I did NOT!” I moaned as Angie listed the events of the evening
prior. “I would
REMEMBER if I had kissed Nick.”
“Fraid it’s true, Kel.” replied Nikki as she sat on the bed putting
on a pair of white
socks. “Don’t worry though,” she added smirking. “You’re not the only one
who doesn’t
remember everything.”
“Huh?” I inquired looking at the glass of alkaseltzer Angie had
prepared for me.
“Oh Damn it!” sighed Angie almost desperately. “I’m trying but it
just won’t
come to me. The last thing I remember is the kiss.”
“Who’s kiss?” I said annoyed. “Would somebody please fill me in
here?”
“Angie kissed THREE Backstreet Boys last night.” explained Nikki
almost rolling
her eyes.
“Which ones?” I begged.
Angie sat down next to me. “AJ...”
“I remember that.” I interjected. “I CLEARLY remember the
bodyshots....and
then...that’s pretty much where it gets murky.”
Angie looked at me. “Like I was saying....I kissed AJ, Nick and
Howie. The
problem is....well....the only thing I remember is kissing Howie. It was
after we brought
you up to bed. That’s it. And somehow, I woke up this morning on the couch
in AJ’s
room...which, by the way, is 815. So, the question is, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED
WITH HOWIE? AND HOW THE HELL DID I GET TO AJ’S ROOM?”
“Oh God,” I moaned. “I have to throw up.” The alka seltzer was not
agreeing at
all.
*****
An hour later we had made our ways to the restaurant in the lobby for
some
coffee. Angie seemed to think that if I got some food in my stomach I would
feel better.
I didn’t think so. I suffered an internal battle to sleep or come down to
catch a glimpse of
Nick. But catching a glimpse was by no means satiable for me. I wanted him.
Just plain
and simple wanted. But now we were in a difficult situation. We had just
hung out with
two of the BSB. The only problem was this in between stage. What were we
supposed to
do now? Wait for them, looking like stalkers in the hotel lobby? Or just
try our luck
going in and out? We didn’t know what to do.
After about fifteen minutes, Nikki pinched my arm. I looked up
slowly at a pair of
bright orange running pants, a trench coat and baseball cap. It was Nick,
accompanied by
his best friend, Brent, and Billy. He was looking at the floor. Slowly,
though, Nick
moved his head upward and was staring right at me. It was a heart stopping
look. He
didn’t smile, he didn’t frown, he simply looked. It was like pure moving
sex. I had to
throw up again. As he walked out the door, I ran out of the lobby to the
ladies room.
*****
Nick had gone to the mall in the same plaza as the hotel. The plan
was for Nikki
and Angie to watch from the mall entrance from the room for Nick to exit.
Then, they
would come downstairs and we would approach him. The plan seemed easy.
At about 2:00 p.m. they came down. All at once I didn’t know what to
do.
About ten minutes later, we saw a group of girls go outside. We knew
they were
going for Nick. Five minutes later, he entered the lobby with only Billy,
and a trail of fans
behind him. “Go!” I heard Angie whisper. My legs moved by themselves as I
approached
him, still feeling queasy.
“Nick...” I barely squeaked out.
“NO!” Billy yelled. “You don’t just walk up like that!” Nick was
looking down.
“I just...” I was stunned. “I just wanted...”
“We’re in a hurry, get out of the way.” the large man commanded.
Nick looked
up now. He stared at me blankly.
“Excuse me?” now I was angry. I was hurt and tired and sick and
angry. Who
was this guy telling me who I could and couldn’t walk up to?
I turned and looked at the bodyguard square in the eye. I had found
courage deep
within me. “I just wanted to talk to him.” I said evenly.
“And I said YOU CAN’T.” Billy glared at me.
“What is this?” I questioned. “Where do you get off treating me
like I were an
animal? I’m not gonna bite him, I just want to talk to him.” I heard Nick
clear his throat.
“You know? You people go around demanding respect? You’re never gonna get
any if
you treat fans like this. This is completely unjustified and unfair. Unfair
to...to both of
us.”
Now, Billy looked toward Nick. He cleared his throat again and
looked at me and
then around the lobby. Everyone was watching. He said something inaudible,
almost
like,“I...uh”. With that he nodded toward the hall way to Billy.
Billy took his arm and brushed me aside sternly and they passed going
toward the
elevator. As they went into the archway to the hallway, Nick turned around
scoping the
lobby. He must have seen my expression as he mouthed, “I’m sorry” to me and
turned
back around.
I had never in my life felt so small and unimportant. Tears welled
up in my eyes,
and I sat down on the armchair in the lobby.
