The door closed softly behind him yet the sound echoed loudly throughout the house. It seemed so lonely, so empty.
Empty.
Just like his heart.
His lashes were bunched together in wet clumps as he took off his sunglasses and tiredly threw them on the foyer table. He reached into his pocket and also threw down his keys. He wouldn't be needing them for a while, he didn't plan on going anywhere.
Never had his feet weighed as much as when he trudged up the stairs and as he reached his bedroom door, he momentarily stopped, taken aback by how different it felt. Hollow. The entire house, but mostly the bedroom, had an unfamiliar hollowness to it.
Hollow.
Just like his soul.
The tears that he'd been willing down for the past 24 hours built up again as he forced himself to look away from the disheveled bed. She'd hated making the bed, rationalizing that his overactive sex drive would just mess it up againand she'd been right. It had been the most trivial things she did that had turned him onlike the way she bit her lip when she was reading or the way she giggled at his lame jokes. All she had to do was look into his eyes sometimes and he couldn't control himself. She'd made him so happy and now he'd lost her forever.
He'd lost her.
Forever.
