    Reiki and Medical Intuition

It was January 2005 when I started to learn about our energy system. We all can heal if we learn how to read it. Learning Reiki and reading books on alternative medicine have taught me a lot in the past few months. There are physical and emotional ways of healing. We learn from the pain we feel but we must not linger on that pain. Sometimes we need to take some personal time for ourselves in this busy world. Also we should keep an open mind and not judge others.

    REIKI
The word Reiki means universal life energy/force. Reiki has helped me to discover how to read energy fields both personally and on others. Reiki is a form of healing in which the energy comes from a greater source (God, Buddha, etc.) through the reiki practitioner to you.

    REIKI TREATMENTS
Reiki treatments are given to the head, torso, back, and other areas of concern. When you treat other people you are also treating yourself. If a person is terminally ill it is a good way to make them feel calm and relaxed. When some one has an area of their body that is bothering them extra Reiki can be given to that area. Reiki lessens the pain or may even get rid of it completely.

    PERSONAL TIME
Sometimes we need a break. Carolyn Myss says this in her book Anatomy of the Spirit, “These days I …tell people that they have woven their spirits into negative things and that to recover their health they need to retreat for a while, pull their spirits back, and learn to walk straight again”(p 19). Reiki has given me time for myself. In this busy world we often do not take the time to heal. I have given Reiki to myself for thirty minutes each night. Thirty minutes is all it takes to relieve the stresses of the day. I was really surprised at the amount of stress I was in. There were many times when I was not getting enough sleep due to insomnia. I use reiki before going to bed. Their has been a huge difference. The Reiki relaxes me and sometimes it even puts me to sleep. It is a great way to learn to treat yourself as well as it is to give it to others.

    EXPERIENCES
I have had many different experiences from receiving and giving Reiki treatments. Not only has Reiki has personally made it easier for me to sleep, it relaxes me. One time I felt heaviness and extreme heat in my throat area. The next week I had a cold that started in my throat. Reiki told me that I was sick before I even knew it. Most people feel heat and tingling sensations. I have helped people with back problems, gave a treatment in which a friend of mine got a good nights sleep after not getting one in five nights, and even changed my mom’s mind about it.

    NON-BELIEVERS
My mom did not believe in Reiki when I first told her about it. She even gave me a funny look when I asked if I could give her a treatment. It was not until after I was able to give her a Reiki treatment that she actually started to believe in it. She said “It felt like I was floating”. She went on to explain that her work had her do a relaxation technique. She had to think of a place that made her comfortable. Her place was floating on a tube on the back of her boat. Her company told her to think of this place whenever she felt stressed. She had linked the relaxation she learned from her job with that of Reiki.

    DO NOT JUDGE
When treating other people we must do it without judgment. “Objectivity meant keeping yourself emotionally detached from the subject on which you are reporting” says Myss(p 14). We may feel a person has a disease but we are not doctors. Telling a person that they may have a disease might make matters worse. We do not know exactly what the disease may be.

    MYSS THE MEDICAL INTUITIVE
Carolyn Myss studied energy in a similar way. “I could soon recognize and distinguish the exact vibrations of a specific disease and its location in a person’s physiology”. She is a medical intuitive. She says "Your physical body is surrounded by an energy field that extends as far out as your out stretched arms and the full length of your body". "We are in communication with everything around us through this system". Knowing how to read your energy system is how you can keep yourself healthy. “Each illness and each body organ has its own frequency or vibrational pattern”(p 20). Reiki teaches us how to feel these patterns. There are “two forms of consciousness-Before your eyes and behind your eyes”. “Once you can see behind your eyes you never ask to return to ordinary consciousness”.

    SEVEN STAGES
Myss came up with a system of seven categories of health and healing that we all go through. These categories follow the same teachings as the chakras, sacraments, and sefirahs. They are: all is one, honor one another, honor oneself, love is divine power, surrender personal will to divine will, seek only the truth, and live in the present moment.

    ALL IS ONE
This categories main concern is family or tribe. When you start out in the world your family is all you know. It is your identity, support, and safety. If you do not have that you will fear abandonment and your survival.

    HONOR ONE ANOTHER
The category honor one another strengths depend on surviving on one’s own physically and financially, being able to recover from loss and to take risks, and the ability to make choices both personally and professionally. If you do not have this you will fear being controlled by others. “Addiction, rape, betrayal, impotence, financial loss, abandonment by our primary partner or professional colleagues” are some of the things people fear in this category.

    HONOR ONESELF
As it says “honor oneself” has to do with yourself. It deals with character, esteem, respect, and discipline that you give to yourself. Its strengths also cover crisis, risks, character strengths, and ethics. The major fears related with this “rejection, criticism, looking foolish, and failing to meet ones responsibilities”.

    LOVE IS DIVINE POWER
In this fourth category a person's strong points are compassion, love, dedication, forgiveness, inspiration, trust, hope, and healings others as well as yourself. If you lack this category then you will fear emotional weakness, loneliness, and commitment. The “energy can give rise to jealously, bitterness, anger, hatred, and an inability to forgive”.

SURRENDER PERSONAL WILL TO DIVINE WILL
This stage has faith, makes decisions and keeps our word, has self knowledge, and personal authority. If you lack this stage your fear connects with all the stages before this. You fear not having authority with your family, personally or professionally, with ourselves, our well being, and God’s will.

    SEEK ONLY THE TRUTH
At this stage your abilities and skill of intellect develop, you have a conscious and unconscious understanding, you are creative, and emotionally intelligent. The opposite would be that you do not want to know the truth. You do not want to hear it, see it, or seek help for it.

    LIVE IN THE PRESENT MOMENT
In the last stage you have faith in the divine, devotion, inner guidance, and an insight into healing. However, you would fear being abandoned spiritually, loss of self as well as with life and people.

    FIXING A FEAR
Everyone goes through these seven catagories. Knowing what stage we lack will help us to find the strengths to fix it. Everyone goes through stages that they will fear because they were never taught. We can heal in two ways emotionally and physically.

    EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL HEALING
Doctors can prescribe medicine to heal us physically but what if the problem is being caused emotionally? Emotional energy is both positive and negative. This includes “past and present relationships, both personal and professional, profound or traumatic experiences and memories, belief patterns and attitudes, including spiritual and superstitious beliefs”. How do we heal emotionally? We heal by releasing pain. We learn from this pain and by doing that we heal.

    LEARNING FROM PAIN
There are times when pain needs to be experienced in order to learn. Myss explains “Life is painful at times and spiritually we are meant to face the pains that life presents”(p 38). “Spiritual teachings encourage us to grow past and through painful experiences, each of which is a spiritual lesson”(p 38). We must not hold on to this pain but let it happen and move on. There is always a good side to a bad experience.

    YING YANG EFFECT
What I like to call the ying yang effect means whatever is negative has a positive or vice versa. I have had type 1 diabetes for almost 2 years now. Normally people would think the worst. For instance the negatives: I have to take shots, blood sugar test, and less or no sweets. However, the positives: I have learned so much about food and the effects it has on our bodies, I exercise more, because I am eating less sweets I am loosing weight, and since my dad has it now we have at least one thing in common. No matter what it is everything can be looked at in a good and bad way. It is seeing a good in a not so good thing that counts.

Learning Reiki and reading books on alternative medicine have taught me a lot in the past few months. We all can heal if we learn how to read it. There are physical and emotional ways of healing. Sometimes we need to take some personal time for ourselves in this busy world. Also we should keep an open mind and not judge others. Carolyn Myss’s book is a great way to start this journey. Reiki has given us the power to know when a problem is occurring. If we know that then we can try to prevent disease or at least slow it down. Sometimes we need to experience pain in order to learn. In order to prevent disease we should not dwell on this pain. When pain is released we are free to open our hearts to the world.
