Drugs part deux
So here I am, a week into this illness, the antibiotic is done, and I’m no better. I’m being compared to Typhoid Mary at this point.
I called Dr. Feelgood’s office, and he wasn’t in, but Dr. Feelevenbetter was. So now I have a new antibiotic that is supposed to be a wonder drug. I also have some sort of new decongestant.
I really hope this kicks in. The cough is exhausting, and I feel as if I have a faucet in my head that never stops dripping. Even in the middle of the night I’m waking up because I can’t breathe properly.
I’m exhausted.
I forgot to mention the effect my coughing had on the tense meeting yesterday afternoon. I kept trying to suppress the need to cough outloud, as it sounds like I’m barking, and it is almost endless once I start. So I was coughing with my mouth closed, but my shoulders were shaking and it was obvious I was sick. Well, you would have thought that the Ice Queen was my mother she was so full of concern.
What she was trying to do was shift the focus of the meeting from herself to my health. The thing is that I didn’t bite. I ignored her comments and just continued trying to be supportive to the principal.
When the meeting ended she was full of concern as she walked me down the hall, asking if I’d been sick through vacation and why I wasn’t taking time off.
I wanted to shake her. Or step on her. But then I always want to do that when I see her. I really despise her.
I really hope these new drugs are a help. I need to be done with this, particularly the cough. I need to be able to take a nice deep breath so I can sing!

Trivia:Why does a candle flame have different zones?
Take a close look at a candle flame. How many different zones does it have? From the wick outward and upward, first there is a transparent zone, then usually a blue zone, then a yellow zone, and possibly a short red one. Sometimes there is even a black zone after that one. The transparent zone nearest the wick is where wax vapor steadily streams off the wick. There isn't enough oxygen in that zone for it to burn, because the steady stream of vapor keeps it out. But something else important happens here: the heat from the burning part of the flame starts breaking up the chains of carbon atoms in the wax. The long chains of carbon atoms immediately condense into extremely tiny particles of soot, which are carried into the main flame. The blue zone is colored by the burning of a particular kind of molecular fragment called diatomic carbon (C2). The yellow zone is colored by the burning of the soot particles. If not all the soot burns, then the red zone forms from cooling soot particles, and you might even see the black zone, which is smoke (large soot particles) in the process of condensing.

Movie fans may recognize the name of the planet-city in "Star Wars: Episode 1" (although the city's name is pronounced differently). Something that is coruscant is glittering, resplendant, brilliantly shiny or showy, presumably like the imaginary planet-city. The verb form is more common: to coruscate [v. KOR-uh-skayt] is to glitter brilliantly, or it is to act in a brilliant or showy way. There is also the noun, coruscation [n. kor-uh-SKAY-shun]. All three words are based on the Latin coruscare (to flash). Coruscation can involve sound or behavior, as well as visual glitter. Example: "When Marilou began to play the violin, glorious liquid notes coruscated through the room." Example: "The highlight of the show was a coruscant tap performance by the Franklin twins."
