Trivia: Why do we say something is "selling like hotcakes?"
When Europeans first arrived in North America, they discovered the versatile plant Indian corn, or maize. Aside from being able to be dried, ground and made into a fine bread, when batter fried on a griddle it yielded a fluffy delicacy best served hot - hotcakes. Interestingly, frontiersmen said they preferred their hotcakes fried in bear grease, while townsfolk were partial to pork lard. Regardless, whenever a Ladies' Aid Society put on a
benefit, cooks found it hard to keep up with the demand for hotcakes. Their popularity and money-raising power was so great that by 1825 any merchandise that moved in a hurry was described as "selling like hotcakes," a term we still use today.
Cool word: soporific (sop-uh-RIF-ik) - Causing or likely to cause sleep or drowsiness; anything likely to induce sleep. "Cursed with a seemingly permanent case of insomnia, Lance kept an extensive collection of soporific books and videos which he used in his vain efforts to get some rest."
Long Week and Happiness

The long week is over and I, for one am glad of it! Of course I’m also glad that I’m on my way to NYC tomorrow.
Rejuvenation and joy.
And it’s supposed to be in the 60’s! That is so unheard of and it means not having to wear a heavy coat and gloves. I should be able to get away with a wool blazer and blouse.
I am, of course, picking the purple blouse and electric blue blazer that makes my eyes look even bluer than they usually do.

Now those of you who read this on a regular basis are very likely saying "She’s setting herself up for a fall! Michael will get cold feet and blow her off."
Well I am here to say:
"Wrong!!!"
He called me tonight to find out where I wanted to go for lunch!
Let me repeat that: He called me tonight to find out where I wanted to go for lunch!!!!!!
I am doing the happy dance!
Actually it was pretty funny. I had gone out to dinner with Dee, and came home to check my e-mail and read the online journals I enjoy. While I was online a mail came through from Michael telling me to get offline so he could call me! He was tired of getting a busy signal.
I laughed and laughed. And wished for the old days when he was on AOL and we would send IM’s to each other. But then again I liked having him call and talking to him live.

When he called I asked him what was wrong and if he was canceling so he could go to Kuala Lumpur. He said yes and that I was coming.
I wish!
We made plans to meet at 12:30 at the Carnegie Deli on 7th. It was just a convenient place and seemed easy. I knew that I wouldn’t have enough time to take the subway and meet him downtown, and he had come to a similar conclusion.
So it’s really going to happen!

This is such a turn around for him! No last minute, no hemming and hawing. Taking the initiative and everything! I am so glad to know that he wants to make this kind of effort.
I am going to smile for the next twenty -four hours!
HOORAY!!!! HOORAY!!!!!
