Trivia: How fast can a kangaroo move?

The fastest kangaroos are the giant red kangaroos (Macropus rufus), which are also the largest kangaroos and the longest jumpers on flat ground. They can reach a top speed of 64 kph (40 mph), leaping up to 13 meters (42 feet) in each jump. While jumping along at high speed, they hold up their tails for balance, and hold their small paws to their chests. When they come to a stop, the tail goes down to the ground in back, and they rest with a solid three-point stance. Red kangaroos live in the dry central part of Australia. They form groups called mobs that may contain up to a hundred individuals. The males are called "boomers" and the females, which are bluish in color, are called "blue fliers."

Cool word: colonel [n. KER-nul]

The military rank below brigadier general and above lieutenant colonel is the colonel. In some U.S. states, the title of colonel can also be awarded as a nonmilitary honor. The word's odd pronunciation is a relic of its history. The small, elite regiment at the head of an army was once known in Italian as the "compagna colonella" (little column company). This expression described the shape of a group of marching soldiers, like a long, straight column on its side. The commander of such a group was the colonella. When the word migrated to French, it changed to coronel, which is the form that originally entered English. The word's pronunciation then became tighter, losing the second vowel. More recently, a more authentically Italian spelling was adopted, but the word is still pronounced KER-nul.

Yes, I went out today among the living (and semi healthy) and haven’t collapsed from fatigue or illness. This is a good thing. Although I am tired. I think that’s due more to the fact that I slept poorly last night. I was having anxiety dreams that either had to do with school or the chorus. I kept waking up because I was crying or fighting with someone.

So I’m not exactly well rested.

I think I drank tea too late last night and that the caffeine got to me. I also didn’t take the cough medicine last night because the codeine makes me so groggy in the morning. I may take it tonight just so I can be sure I sleep. But if I do that I’ll have to go to bed on the early side so I can be semi-alert when the alarm goes off at 5:30.

Ugh.

Lunch was quite enjoyable today. I think sometimes it’s easier to have three of us get together as there is more to chat about and it’s easier to keep the conversational ball rolling. Not that I’m usually at a loss for words, but sometimes it get to be old hat.

It felt strange to be dressed and made up. I haven’t looked human in almost a week. I can’t say that I dislike being in my nightgown all day though.

After lunch I went to the craft store to get more enamel to play with. From there I went to the pet store as the damn cat peed on the rug again this morning. In the exact same spot. Fortunately I caught it quickly and had some powder stuff to dump on it. I went out and bought some of the more expensive stuff that is called "Nature’s Miracle" and is supposed to be the best thing to get rid of carpet odor and stains. I tried it two weeks ago, but I don’t know that it worked. I’m giving it another shot.

I hate this. It’s a pain.

I’ve been feeling so guilty about the cat and the vet this week, but now I’m ready to kill him. This is willful on his part as he has to JUMP OVER the box to get to this spot. I may kill him yet.

So it’s back to the grind tomorrow and I have no idea what the week will bring. I left my plan book and appointment calendar on my desk when I left on Monday, as I didn’t think I’d be out for any length of time.

Big mistake. For all I know I might have a meeting tomorrow morning. It’ll be a disaster if I do!

I also have to think about starting the adult computer class on Tuesday.

I am feeling so out of touch…
