Wishing Upon A Star

July 5 -- Family Picnic

The family picnic was too hot.

My mother was in the bitch from hell mood. I called to find out what time I should get there. She wanted me two hours before the rest of the family arrived. I was really at the end of my rope then. I got into the shower and had a bout of hysterical crying.

When I got there (at about 11) she still hadn't gotten dressed and my father was still in bed.

It's a wonder I survived at all.

Then she had to cook steamers, but it was so hot that no one really wanted them as well as hot dogs and hamburgers. This pissed her off royally. She decided that no matter what she did someone had to argue with her and tell her she was wrong.

Makes for pleasant conversation. Just keep your mouth closed and do the work.

There was no expressing an opinion, let me tell you! The thing is, I'd tried to convince her to have the picnic Saturday or Sunday, and not worry about my attending.

Her response to that? "I'm not doing all that work by myself!" Shows what my attendance is required for, and where I stand in the pecking order.

I'm the slave labor!

Keith and Matilda can be fun though and sort of make things more bearable. Matilda never shuts up. She is full of stories and wants to hear family stories over and over. It doesn't matter that she knows them by heart.... I have to tell them.

Another day of being in place where it's too hot. I was so glad to come home to my air conditioning!
