Wishing Upon A Star
July 16 -- Dumpster Diving
Ah….Friday……
The heat and humidity are on their way back in, so it’s going to be one of those weekends where I crank the air conditioning and stay inside, unless I can dash to my air conditioned car and then dash into an air conditioned store or restaurant.
I know I’m a wimp. I just don’t enjoy weather extremes. I prefer moderation. I don’t like extreme heat and humidity; I don’t like extreme cold, snow, ice or wind. I like the fall and spring a lot though. And I love summer when it’s hot but not humid, and I love pretty winter snow that I don’t have to drive in.
I had a great dumpster find today.
When I got home from work I noticed a chair that looked like pipe furniture sitting at the side of the dumpster today. People in this complex are great about not putting usable stuff in the dumpster but leaving it next to it for someone else to inherit. So I checked over the chair and couldn’t find anything wrong with it and decided that it would be great on my balcony. So I snagged it. It was lightweight and I didn’t even have to wrestle it up the three flights of stairs.
I noticed later that three more had appeared. Too bad I don’t have room for them! I really like them.
All it needs is cushions, and I got a coupon the other day from Bed, Bath and Beyond" for five dollars off any purchase over fifteen dollars…..I’m sure I can meet that quota without a problem.
That’s the type of store that I love. I can always find snazzy doo dad for the bathroom or to scatter around. And they also have all sorts of storage containers, which is another thing I never can have enough of.
I think I watch too many decorating shows on Home and Garden TV. I never would have thought of grabbing stuff from dumpsters if it weren’t for those decorators who turn these pieces of junk into works of art. I never am that good, but see the benefit of snagging functional items.
I got a floor sweeper that works great a few weeks ago. It’s good in the bathroom and kitchen in particular and only needed one screw to keep the handle fastened on. Of course I couldn’t find a screw, but a twist tie has been working just fine, thankyou.
Here’s a great site where you can send a dumpster gift to a friend.
I also spent time shopping, but I hadn’t really intended to. I originally needed to go to Lord & Taylor because it’s Clinique Bonus Time, but the other stores started calling to me. So I got two pairs of black shorts (actually one is a skort), and several tops, a couple dressy and a couple just t-shirts with designs on the front. I also got a cute vest that was incredibly cheap ($11) for a Liz Claiborne design.
I love end of season sales. Although I find it hard to believe that mid-July is the end of the summer season.
But the Halloween stuff is starting to appear in the stores. Spooky.
I think this will be a good weekend to do some quick cleaning and then to do some stamping. I’ve decided I’d like to start a portfolio type thing of some of my creations. I make them and mail them, but never keep copies for myself.
