Wishing Upon A Star

July 29 Unexpected offer

Well, let’s get this out of the way first.

Have I heard form Michael? No, no, no. Am I upset? You bet! Damn. This waiting is killing me!

But I have resolved to not send the first e-mail.

At least for now.

I got the most unexpected offer today.

The Village Idiot called me and asked if I’d be interested in teaching an adult education course this fall on using Windows (a very basic introduction).

Well knock me over with a feather!

I didn’t know he even knew I had more computer knowledge than most of the people in the system. Actually I often wonder if he knows I’m alive. So this has totally floored me.

He needs an answer by tomorrow, which gives me little time to think about this. It has both pros and cons.

Con: being in the town till nine o’clock one night a week. I hate that town. It’s a half-hour away, so I’m not sure it would be practical to come home and go back. It’s one more night out in an already packed schedule. I’m depressed enough that I haven’t found an alternate career, so what would spending all this extra time at school do to me?

Pro: a real feather in my cap. Looks good on the resume. Brownie points with the Village Idiot, who I generally hate, but this would be a good way to show my skills off to him. It pays twenty bucks and hour and it’ll only be eight hours.

I really don’t know what to do about this. Oddly, I am far from a Windows guru, especially in that I use a Mac at home, but I seem to have an innate ability to figure out the computer programs and to teach the basic stuff would be a snap.

I don’t know what would be the smartest thing to do. And I have to get back to him tomorrow.

Damn. I hate quandaries.
