![]() My head hurts ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm just starting to recover from this testing thing. I think I've fried all remaining brain cells. My head hurts from concentrating so hard. Today, after learning how to correct conventions, then practice correcting 15 essays for conventions, we moved on to mixed correcting. This took over an hour. After we finish correcting each packet, we have to turn in out scores and see if they compare to the official scores. We can be dead on in matching them, or adjacent. If we’re not there has to be a big chunk of group discussion time. Then we have to go over all the standards that are listed on the rubric and compare the essays to the "anchor pack" which has what they consider to be prime examples of each range. This took the entire morning.
![]() After lunch had to take our qualifying rounds. Two packets, ten essays each that had to be corrected for topic development and conventions. If you don't pass the qualifying you then have to continue with two more similar packets until you do qualify. If after that you don't qualify you have to get extra help. Personally I think that we’d done so much practice correcting that we should have been able to move right to the real thing. Fortunately I got 100 on my first two qualifying for topic development and a 90 on the conventions. I'm beginning to think I'm a hard ass when I correct this stuff. Apparently not everyone did manage to pass in the first pack (once you pass one packet you qualify – but you still have to take the second test). I was relieved to know that I was on the mark with these things. You didn’t have the chance to be adjacent on these scores, you had to be exact. Once I knew that I qualified I relaxed and didn’t feel so pressured taking the second round. I felt bad for the women on either side of me who didn’t pass the first time and who were really sweating it out. So now tomorrow I start correcting the real thing for the next three days. The lives of fourth graders are now in my hands. Scary thought.
![]() I’m really, really exhausted, but I still did go to rehearsal. Which was a bore. I did cause quite a stir when I went off with the baritones for section rehearsal. There were a couple of people who came up to me to ask what I was doing. One of them is a person that I can’t stand and I wanted to snap at her, What business is if of yours?" But I refrained. Collapse time. ![]() Listening to: Michael Feinstein sings Berlin Reading: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Weather: 74, sunny Trivia: The palms of the hands and soles of the feet contain more sweat glands than any other part of the body.
