![]() Trying to distract myself ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I’m working really hard to try to distract myself from my feelings, my confusion, and my out of control emotions about Michael. But no matter what I still hope she falls off the face of the earth.
![]() Funny how quickly my unscheduled summer has passed, and how little I've accomplished. I have about four weeks left, but I doubt I'll have done even half of what I set out to do. It's that short attention span of mine. I get going on something and get distracted by something else and never finish the thing I originally started. It also has to do with the fact that 1.) I hate to clean 2.) I own too much stuff 3.) this place is too small for all that stuff 4.) I refuse to throw out any of that stuff 5.) I shop year round and buy gifts for people months ahead of having a reason to give them - this takes up a ton of room 6.) all my hobbies require accouterments of some kind (stamping, sewing, reading, journaling, soap making, polymer clay, music).
![]() I'm participating at a seminar at the Cape next weekend and today they sent me a kid's novel to read as well as a college text about reading comprehension that I have to read several chapters in. I almost choked when I opened it. It's got all those statistics and diagrams that I haven't seen in years (and that I always hated when I was in school!) The kid’s book is called Skellig. I’m not at all familiar with it. I’ve seen the title but haven’t ever bothered to read it. Fortunately it’s short. I’m only going to this thing because Dee talked me into it. She was supposed to go with someone from the reading association that she’s president of, but the person backed out. And lord knows Dee won’t go anywhere alone.
![]() I still have to write an article about the chorus for one of the Adeline publications (deadline is the 1st). There’s a problem with that, though, as no one seems to know where I can send it and as far as I’m concerned it’s got to get e-mailed to its destination. I don’t have a printer that works, so I can’t print it out and mail it. I also have to get the teacher's guide written for Cobblestone magazine's website. Actually I have two of those to do, one deadline is the end of August, and the other is the end of September. I need to get moving on that stuff. Too bad none of it pays cash!
![]() I've decided I want to become a music critic so I can get new CDs sent to me and I can stop spending my money! I wonder if I can get some itsy bitsy paper to hire me? I could work for free if the CDs started coming in! Of course I’m doing that to make myself more part of Michael’s world.
![]() I think I’m becoming an obsessed stalker. What is with me? I did send him my thoughts on the new website and they weren’t very complimentary. He may be hating me now! Damn I’m unhappy! ![]() Listening to: Whistle Down the Wind Reading: Eclipse Bay Weather: rainy and cold Trivia: What’s the purest natural sound in the ocean? Scientists have been puzzled by strange sounds echoing through the Pacific Ocean. The mysterious "T waves" are among the purest sounds heard in nature, usually with a single frequency of 3-12 cycles per second. Blasting for seconds to minutes at a time, these strange sub-bass rumblings were recorded especially often in 1991 and 1992. Where do the mysteriously pure tones come from? The source is now thought to be an undersea volcano in the South Pacific. When it erupts, it creates a column of steam bubbles that acts as a resonator (like an organ pipe) to create the deep, pure sound. According to calculations, the distance between the top of the volcano and the surface of the ocean (130 meters / 426 feet) is just right to produce the frequencies heard. Cool word: sinuous [adj. SIN-yuh-wus or SIN-you-us]
Sinuous has several different meanings. For instance, something that has a wavy form or is abounding in curves, (such as a snake) is sinuous. Sinuous also describes someone or something that moves in a supple manner with smooth, lithe movements. Example: "The sinuous bodies of the dancers entranced the audience." In another less flattering usage, sinuous describes something that is devious or sneaky. It can also mean something that is intricate or complex. Sinuous first appeared in the English language in 1578. It derives from the Latin noun sinus (for curve, fold or hollow). This is also the root word of sinus (best known today as the naval cavity), which has described opening, recesses and cavities of all sorts since the 1400s.
