March 7
Day 3Š.snow captive

Well, for the first time in recent memory I'm home for the third day in a row because of a major snowstorm. We shouldn't have been canceled on Monday, they really jumped the gun by calling Sunday night. It was sort of snizzling all day, but the driving would have been fine.

Yesterday was a different story. I'd say we got about 18 inches of the wet, heavy stuff. So of course this led to a power outage that lasted about seven hours.

Let me tell you, no heat for seven hours (mine is electric) and you get damn cold! I went down to sit in the car for a while to warm up!

I was also going through computer withdrawal symptoms...shaking, fingers typing on an invisible keyboard..... it was getting ugly!

I had fully expected to go to school today, so I was surprised when the principal called me last night to tell me that we were canceled again. He called really early, too. I guess they still have roads that are a disaster and many power outages as well.

Of course now I'll never want to go back.

These three days have totally messed up our meeting schedules as well as all the testing I was supposed to be getting done. It's going to be a real scramble to get back on track. And of course I'll hate having to go the extra days in June.

Now they say that we're getting another storm Friday night, not as bad, but who needs it?

I am SO done with winter!

I can say I've been very productive during this enforced sabbatical. I've done all sorts of organizing and labeling of supplies, etc. I'm not quite done, but I've made a huge dent in what had seemed to be an overwhelming task. It was a good project that didn't require any electricity as long as I had daylight.

My biggest distraction came from having found a wonderful book called, "My Cat Spit Magee" by Willie Morris. All I want to do is read, so I have to tear myself away from the book and reward myself with reading time once I get something done.

Pathetic.

I'm not sure how "the boys" are going to react when I have to go back to work. They think that having me home is swell, as I'm easy to boss around and keep giving them toys to play with.

They run the place.
