Wishing Upon A Star

Who cares?

It’s pretty clear that I am the only person on the face of the earth who doesn’t give a hoot about the Academy Awards. But I really don’t.

The only nominated film that I’ve seen is "The Sixth Sense" and I am rooting for that little boy because he was astounding. Other than that I just don’t care.

I’m really not a movie fan, unless it’s something really spectacular, and I don’t ever feel the urge to run to see these films as they open. The price of them boggles the mind and I figure eight movies are the same cost as one Broadway show (if I got to the TKTS booth it’s only five movies).

I’d rather save the eight bucks and get to New York.

Now if it’s the Tony Awards (the one’s given out for Broadway) don’t disturb me. I want to bask in the glory that is Broadway.

That is the first Sunday in June.

Speaking of Broadway my friend RJ went to see "lion King", "Aida" and "Wild Party" last week. I think I hate him. I know that I’m unspeakably jealous!

He said he got Playbills for me, which is very nice of him, but certainly not the same as being there!

I’ve gotta figure out if it’s possible to get there during April vacation.

He took the new high-speed train and it only took three hours to get there from Boston. The fare was $115, which I think is a bit steep.

I need to do some financial planning and see if Michael is around and can get together. It would kill me to go and to not be able to spend time with him.

I did hear from him the other day. He’s swamped with work and not much on communicating for fun these days. Which is a real bummer for me.

But I did hear from him, so this is a good thing.

I guess I’ll go watch the beginning of the Oscars. The only thing that’s guaranteed to be clever and interesting about that show is Billy Crystal’s medley and his opening film.

Trivia: What kind of mushrooms melt into black ink?

When they reach maturity, several kinds of mushrooms in the genus Coprinus begin to deliquesce, or dissolve into black, inky fluid. After a few hours, all that's left is a patch of dark moisture. These mushrooms, called inky caps, have evolved this strange trait as a way of spreading their spores. When rain falls, the black fluid (which contains billions of spores) is diluted and carried away. As the rain and fluid soaks into the ground, the spores are carried with it. Coprinus mushrooms include the common, edible shaggy mane mushroom (Coprinus comatus), which is often seen in lawns in the autumn, as well as other smaller mushrooms that inhabit decaying wood or dung or pop up in flowerpots.

Cool word:ebullient [adj. ih-BUL-yunt, ih-BOOL-yunt]

Someone who is ebullient is zestfully enthusiastic, positively bubbling over with joyful exuberance. A liquid can also be ebullient if it is bubbling and boiling. Example: "Jerry was ebullient for days after winning the office football pool." The original sense of this word applied only to bubbling liquids. It's from the Latin ebullire (to bubble out), which is a compound of ex- (out) and bullire (to boil). In the late 1500s the word could have described a pot of boiling water or a bubbling spring, but later the meaning broadened to include the emotional "boiling" that accompanies joyful excitement. A related word is ebullition [n. eb-uh-LISH-un] (the state of boiling, or a sudden, violent emotional outburst).
