Wishing Upon A Star

Stayed Home

All I did last night was cough and cough and cough. I kept waking up then not being able to get back to sleep. I saw Baywatch at 3 am. Isn’t that a thrill??

The cat got sick at 3, but fortunately he used the box, so I didn’t have to run around with the carpet stuff. Then he threw up at 5, and that woke me so I gave up and got up.

Then the real spasms started.

Without being too graphic, lets just say that my gag response is in top-notch working order. At least the "on" switch is. The "off" switch appears to be broken. By 6 it was apparent that there was no way I could go into work, so I called in. But then I couldn’t go back to bed because I had to call a kid’s parent at 8. I was afraid I wouldn’t wake up, and I needed to get hold of this woman before she went off to work. I’d left paperwork for her in the school office on Friday, but I’d forgotten to call her to let her know she could pick it up. Dumb.

Then I spent the next couple of hours with Katie, Al, and Matt. Then with Regis and KathieLee. Well I didn’t stick with Regis long, they get on my nerves, so I switched over to the craft programs.

Strenuous, huh?

I decided that I needed to come up with a May design, and decided that my life is so full of drama that this is an appropriate layout. The thing is that there are two images that are loaded into my directory but that won’t appear correctly on the page. It’s all coded the same way that I’ve always coded it, and I can’t figure out the problem. It’s at times like this that I wish I had a PC instead of a Mac, and that I had a WYSIWYG editor to help me out.

Maybe someday.

I made pins for all the chorus members that say "Birds of a feather flock together". A little unity reminder. That took up a chunk of the afternoon. I still need to finish putting the backings on them. Having my own laminator is a real help.

I kept getting phone calls from school this afternoon. I was apparently indispensable today. I thought that was interesting, but irritating at the same time.

My officemate had to call to vent because she’d been at a meeting that had gotten out of hand and she was ready to kill a colleague in the other building.

She did mention that the principal asked the Pink of Perfection why it was that she wasn’t supporting the rest of us in terms of increased staffing needs next year.

Hehehehe.

I actually managed to put away the pile of laundry that I’ve been climbing over and attempting to ignore. Amazing how much space I can unearth when I put stuff away.

I even vacuumed. Perhaps you saw the lightening bolts?

What I should have done was take a look at some of the schoolwork that I’ve successfully ignored for the last three days.

Maybe later tonight.

Yah, right.

Trivia: Oscar [n. OS-ker]

An Oscar is one of a set of awards given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The trophies recognize achievement in films. Officially named the Academy Award of Merit, an Oscar trophy depicts a knight standing on a reel of film. The Academy has been handing out the statuettes, designed by L.A. sculptor George Stanley, since 1929. The origins of the nickname are unclear but a popular story is that the staff started calling the trophy Oscar because it reminded an Academy executive director of her Uncle Oscar. A Hollywood columnist first used the nickname publicly when writing about the 1934 awards. In 1939 the Academy started officially using the now trademarked name.

Cool word: peripatetic [adj. or n. pehr-uh-puh-TET-ick]

Peripatetic may sound like something you don't want to catch, but it actually refers to someone who moves around a lot. Near synonyms include itinerant, migrant, wandering, roving, and rambling. Example: "As the daughter of an Army officer, Emily had a peripatetic childhood." Used precisely, peripatetic describes someone who is given to walking. It comes from the Greek peripatein which meant walking around. The Greek prefix peri- means around. The noun peripatetic refers to someone who walks, a pedestrian. Perhaps the most famous peripatetic is Aristotle. The Greek philosopher's followers would learn their lessons walking beside him as he paced the shady lanes of the garden at the Lyceum. His students came to be called peripatetikos.

HOROSCOPE

Aries

Your day begins on a warm note. An early morning chat over coffee with a friend or business colleague can give you some advantageous financial- or career-related insights. Resist the urge to reject advice automatically if all the pieces don't fit together. The words may be powerful, but listen carefully and then add those insights to your own intuition. Be patient, and don't expect overnight coups. Look for long-term growth now.

With Venus now in Taurus you will start to see some welcome rewards from your money-making efforts in the next few weeks. Other likely improvements are that you will be much more forgiving about any bodily imperfections you may have, and also able to beautify yourself in practical ways as you realize it is up to you to make the most of your assets instead of regretting you are not the goddess herself.
