![]() Too hot It has been far too hot for these last two days. It’s making me feel so tired an unable to move. It’s been in the nineties for goodness sake! It’s only May 8! This means that the summer could well be too miserable to even imagine. I couldn’t sleep last night. I’d kept the balcony door open to try to get some air, but I had to keep the blinds closed because the light I put out there is so bright it keeps me awake. Every time there was even a slight breeze the blinds would sway and rattle and wake me up. I finally gave up at about 2am and turned on the air conditioning. I’m not a fan of the air conditioning but at least it cools the room down enough to allow me some sleep.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I got an e-mail from Michael today that was both lovely and sad. About my school situation he wrote: Sorry to hear about your school upset. You really, really need to get out of there, and you are NOT too old or too anything else to do it. Too scared -- well, maybe. That's your choice. But you're engaging, smart, loyal, dedicated, and a wonderful catch for anyone who needs these qualities. Don't give up. He is just so good for my ego. (Of course I wish he were the one who would consider me a catch, although that isn’t what our friendship is about – pipe dreams that would probably wreck the friendship) The sad part is that his mother is dying and it seems to be imminent. She is quite elderly, but when it’s your mother that just doesn’t matter. He is terribly sad and it comes out in what he writes to me. It’s hard because there is nothing I can do. Even if I lived closer than four hundred miles away there still wouldn’t be anything that I could do. I can just be there for support and as a shoulder. He knows he can call me whenever he wants, but I don’t know that he will. Then again, if he needs to chat, he might. I’m a really good listener. My heart goes out to him.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thunderstorms are in the air, so I’d better turn this machine off. The last thing I need is an exploding computer. Maybe the thunderstorms will cool the air. ![]() Listening to: Bocelli - Sogno Reading: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Weather: 94, sunny Trivia:How do modern freezers remain frost-free? If you own an old refrigerator you may need to defrost the freezer from time to time, a difficult task possibly requiring a lot of scraping and hot water. How do modern freezers stay free of accumulated ice? Ice condenses in the freezer because cold air can't hold as much water vapor as warm air. In an older freezer frost forms on everything every time warm, moist air enters from outside. In a more modern freezer the air is circulated by a fan and the frost forms mostly on the coldest surface, which is the cooling coils in the back. You might think that the coils would quickly be surrounded by solid ice, and they would, if not for the defrost function. Every so often a heating element warms up the air around the coils just long enough to melt the frost. The water trickles down the back of the freezer to a tray near the floor where it evaporates. Cool word: perdition [n. pur-DIH-shun] Perdition is the loss of one's soul, as described in various religions. Example: "Threatened with perdition, Carrie struggled to be good." ARIES Take a look at those areas and activities, which you are really committed to and which offer the best prospects for long-term growth and reward. This is especially so in how you set about earning a living, you will do better to have a mind to eventual gains rather than the quick advantage. If you put aside some money for later in life, or into long term savings, you will reap handsome benefits when the time comes to cash in. If you've been thinking about land investments, you may act on those thoughts today. Perhaps you've applied for a mortgage, and it will be approved. Consider whether you and a friend share aesthetic tastes before you accept an offer to help with a purchasing decision. You may be so eager to improve your surroundings that you'll delude yourself into thinking you have more than enough to splurge. Avoid temptation. Make a budget and stick to it now. |
