"Al-Dabaran", a Raakid Arab stallion resin sculpted by Lynn Fraley and painted by Tom Bainbridge/Julie Kuiper, in the Arabian Costume class at the New England Spring Expo 2001, on April 28. The costume is by Cary Nelson. The following three photos show the scene from various aspects. The card for this class read, "Rashid stops to pray in the town of Medina on his pilgrimage (hajj) to the Holy City of Mecca."
Al-Dabaran is Arabic for "the follower", as the star Aldebaran follows the Pleiades in the sky.
The following photo shows "Al-Dabaran" in the Creative Showmanship class. The card read, "Rashid praises his horse for carrying him through the desert and to Allah for his safety."
THANKS go to Tammy Ferin, who was kind enough to take several photos of "Al-Dabaran" and "Rashid"!!!!!
Here is an updated photo of my beautiful stallion with a more accurate Syrian/Jordanian native costume by Cary Nelson.
Thanks to Liz Bouras for his photo from JAHS 3-D!!
