Puppies JUMPING UP

No! Bad dog! No Jump!

This is one of the things that drive people crazy about puppies that they jump up and snap at their kids.

The first thing you have to understand is that all puppies are "HIPER" and do not know better! This is a very easy thing to stop. It will take time and patience's, and can be a challenge. The trick is to have control of the puppy.

So your are saying, "How Do I Get Control?"

The first thing people do when they get a puppy home is let it run-a-round like craze and jump and be a puppy. Which is fine! "BUT" you have to remember that (TRAINING) starts the very first day the puppy gets home and dose not stop ever! You have to remember that training is something you do every day for the rest of the dog's life! You have to teach the puppy what is "right, and what is wrong".

CONTROL,
When a puppy dose something wrong you have to teach it right then, that it is wrong to do what it is doing. So you need to teach it that you are in control (THE BOSS) and will not put up with what it is doing wrong!

Most times when a puppy jumps up it is very excited. So when a puppy jumps up it is because someone is letting it. First, you have to teach your dog not to jump on you. So you have to make it difficult for the puppy to jump up. Attach a leash to her collar, and examine her while you are kneeling down in front of her well she sits or stands without her licking, wiggling, or jumping around you. This is a real challenge! When your puppy jumps up, she is about to get a surprise!

As soon as her front paws leave the floor, yank down on her leash and say "NO JUMP" and hold her down for a second or two. Now try it again! "BUT" this time standing up with the leash under your foot with no presser on the leash so when you bend over to pat her if she jumps up, pull the leash and say "NO JUMP". What you are trying to teach her is that she is not to jump up at all. But you have to do this over and over till she gets the message!

The next thing that you have to let everybody else know is that if she jumps up to pull her down by her collar and hold her down saying "NO….JUMP" if she should jump up again you have to do it again! The biggest problem here is if one person, a kid, friend or relative lets her do it, she will think "if I can do it to this person I can do it to everybody" The best thing to do is put her in her crate and put the crate, were she is not going to be bothered by strangers!

This is one of the keys to training a puppy is to try to keep it calm and not let it get excited. Puppies need to learn when it is playtime, and when it is time to be calm. This is the hardest thing to teach a puppy! But if you take control and be the boss, you will find that training can be very rewarding and you will in time, have a dog that will very well mannered.

One more thing you have to remember is, "JUMPING UP" or as I call it "DANCING" is fun for dogs, a trick that is not hard to teach them! Lost your patience? Take a time out, it will take time!
