Speeches of Carl Schurz
Originally most of these speeches were taken from Frederic Bancroft, ed., Speeches, Correspondence and Political Papers of Carl Schurz, six volumes, New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1913. Three are taken from Thomas B. Reed., Modern Eloquence, volumes III and IX, 1903 and 1900. Gradually more and more are being taken from original sources and from clippings and typescripts found in the papers of Carl Schurz in the Library of Congress. Even for versions taken from secondary sources, when I could refer to a more original source and/or give a more exact reference with page numbers, I have.
In addition to this collection, see also his 1865 book, Speeches of Carl Schurz, and U. S. Senate Speeches and Remarks of Carl Schurz.
