Dvd on Gamecube Update

Possibly a bit early to judge, it seems that nintendo never really had it in for Dvd to be playable on the Gamecube System. The truth behind it all(as of now) is that nintendo will release a dvd compatible version of the gamecube but it will cost more and is a separate version made by Matsushita(Panasonic brand in America). Unfortunately there has been no conformation on whether the dvd capable version will be available in the U.S. We can all hope so.

After hearing Sony boast about the Playstation 2's abilities I admit that i hesitated to buy Gamecube. With the power to play Ps1 titles, Ps2 titles, dvd movies, music cd's, and connect to the internet it seemed like a good deal to me. However, At the same time that Sony had released it's Playstation 2 in Japan, Nintendo released news on the Gamecube(Then known as "Dolphin"). This included it's ability to play Dvd's and music as well as Gamecube games. This was overlooked by many who assumed that Nintendo would leave themselves out in the dust with no special capabilities(this included me!). As of now, Gamecube should be able to play Gamecube games, Dvd movies, music cd's, and connect to the internet.

Even though i would rather have Nintendo focus on games, it keeps them in good competition with Sony. If the extras such as these attract people to buy the system the fine. However not needed, I'll take the extra bonus anyday.
