The Nova Prophet William S. Burroughs William S. Burroughs was born in St. Louis in 1914. His many books include Naked Lunch, The Soft Machine, The Ticket That Exploded, Nova Express, and The Wild Boys. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts & Letters. He died in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1997.
