Halloween Foosball News 'N Notes

  • October 20th, 2006

Three members of the Bartlett School Class of 1998 figure to benefit the most from Corey Pinkham being in Florida and not taking part in the Halloween Foosball Tournament this year.  Corey’s long time arch-rival, Greg Ouellette, whose success in the early years of the Tournament was blown away by Corey’s recent dominance, may finally be able to re-establish his own credentials now that Corey is out of the picture.  Although Greg may not be that happy that Corey is gone because he won’t have the chance to finally beat him.  Greg is 0-4 lifetime against Corey, with losses in the 1998 semi finals, and in 3 straight HFT Finals from 2002-2004.

James Ostis has more losses to Corey than anybody, although he remains the last person to beat him.  Jim has played Corey 6 times.  He is 1-5 against Corey and 15-2 against everyone else over the Corey Pinkham era.  Despite the lopsided W-L record, nobody has consistently played Corey tougher, including a 10-8 loss in the 2005 HFT.

But nobody has expressed his optimism about the news more than Wilson Rith.  After missing the 2003 Tournament, Wilson has lost to Corey in the second round for consecutive years, and has compiled an 0-4 lifetime record against him.  The person who should really be happy is whoever Wilson’s second round opponent will be.  Wilson lost in the first round in ’98, ’99, and ’02.  But in the years that he has advanced to the elite 8, Wilson has always faced (and obviously lost to) the eventual tournament winner. (Corey in 2000, Greg in 2001, Corey in 2004, Corey in 2005).  So you could say the road to the 2006 Halloween Foosball Championship goes through Wilson.

In other happenings, Sopha Huynh recently commented on the HFT myspace page that she might not be able to make it this year.  She could not be reached for further comment. Regardless of Sopha’s announcement, the Halloween Foosball Tournament is expecting a record number of girls to attend this year’s event.  “It has been a boy’s club for too long” an unnamed source claimed, “this year the gender gap won’t be as big.”  No female competitor has ever won in the singles tournament.  Greg and Lena Mendonca won a match in the 2001 doubles tournament, marking the first time a mixed team ever had a victory.  Last year Sopha and Linna Hor became the first all girls team to win when they beat the Higson brothers last year.

There still has been no sign of Greg Ouellette.  Since the rumors of a possible trip to North Carolina were first revealed, Greg has gone MIA.  Is he in the Tar Heel State as we speak?  When he goes to North Carolina, he will visit the state capitol, Washington DC.  You got a lumpy butt.
