yummy!    Bread

Brown Bread
(Brother John's favorite)

pour 1 cup boiling water over

1 1/2 cup seeded raisins
2 tsp baking soda
and
2 Tbl butter

cool

Add:
2 c flour
1 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
3/4 c broken walnuts

Stir just until all ingredients are well mixed

Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees
in 3-4 well greased vegetable cans
or 2-3 well greased coffee cans
 

Swiss Onion Bread Ring
(thanks Eileen)

2 1/2 tsp poppy seeds
1 tube refrigerated white bread dough
 (17.4 ounce minimum weight)
1 cup (4 oz) shredded swiss cheeze
3/4 cup sliced green onions
1/4 cup melted butter or margerine

Sprinkle 1/2 tsp poopy seeds in well greased pin fluted tube pan
Cut the dough into 1 inch pieces
Place 1/2 the dough into prepared pan
sprinkle with 1/2 of the cheeze and onions
1 tps of poppy seeds
Drizzle with 1/2 the butter

Repeat layers

Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes
Invert onto wire rack, serve warm

Dinner Rolls

Great at Thanksgiving Dinner!
2 pkgs yeast
1/2 c lukewarm water
let sit 5 minutes to dissolve

add 1 1/2 c lukewarm milk
1/2 c sugar
2 tsp salt
mix all

add 2 eggs 1/2 c shortning (stir to soften)

add 3 1/2 c flour mix thoroughly, then add 1 1/2 c flour
put 1 c flour on pastry board and 1/2 c flour on top of turned out dough

knead until flour is all in the dough

wash bowl, grease with shortning
put dough in and cover with a clean towel

1 st rise wait 1 to 2 hours then punch dough and turn it over
2 nd rise wait 1/2 hour

butter 2 9" cake pans
cut dough into chunks for individual rolls
pinch each piece to make round shape for roll top
split pieces between cake pans
3 rd rise wait 1/2 hour

bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour or until golden
