The Stigma

The pregnant woman looked up from her swollen belly and scowled at her husband. The husband patted his wife's knee, being careful to stay clear of a spontaneous kick.
    "It's almost time," she said.
"Hold on a little longer, the ferry's almost here!"
"It's no good, we'll have to stay."
How could their vacation have gone so wrong, he wondered. A short excursion to the island and suddenly labor had set in. Now, because he was born here, his new son would carry a stigma for the rest of his life. He would be - a young man from Nantucket!
