Wishing On A Firefly

It was magnificent being outside in the late summer evening. Charlotte pitied her brother Michael inside, he would never know what he was missing. She watched a lone firefly flicker against the starry background of the night sky.  She was sad because their passing meant that summer too would also pass soon and the hard times would come. She wanted to catch it, to possess that final flicker of summer to carry her through the cold times ahead. She closed her eyes and wished...yes! She caught it! Charlotte climbed her spider web toward the last firefly of summer.
