The Molfetta Group Singers were formed in 1990. At this time, a concert to raise funds for the Italian Village Retirement Home for Senior Citizens was organised, and the group sang the famous Molfettese Christmas Carol, 'La Santa Allegrezza'.
Since then, the group has grown not only in terms of the number of singers, but also the variety of songs and engagements, as they now perform at a variety of venues. The Group combines Christmas Carols during the Festive Season together with old, traditional and regional Italian songs throughout the year. The group also sings some popular and folk songs in English.
The Group is predominantly comprised of people of Molfettese origin, with an Australian conductor well educated and experienced in the Italian culture. The Group also includes others without a Molfettese background, including an Australian musician, a Napolitan musician, a Toscano singer and a Calabrese singer. Several members of the same families are also involved.
The Group has performed at various Senior Citizen rest homes, some Italian cultural Clubs, Italian religious Feasts and even at the Adelaide City Force Soccer Club matches (photo at left). The Group has also reached the heights of performing at the annual Italian Festival in South Australia, Carnevale, as well as the recent Catholic Jubilee Festivities.
The Molfetta Group singers perform at no charge, but donations in any form are always welcome. Any enquiries regarding booking or other details can be obtained by phoning (08) 8298 4064 or (08) 8296 7202, or contacting the webmaster at hitmaster@hitmaster.mail22.com
