The Sturbridge Lions Club is a group of approximately 30 individuals, both men and women from Sturbridge and surrounding towns who are dedicated to the goals of Lionism. Our primary goal is to be "Knights of the Blind" by assisting individuals in the community who are blind or visually impaired. As a result, we run many fund raising activities throughout the year and donate much of these proceeds to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Funds. These funds have contributed to many medical breakthroughs that have eliminated blindness in several parts of the world and are working to eradicate blindness worldwide.
However, we are also involved in the community and have purchased hearing and vision testers that are used in the schools for vision and hearing screening.
The bandstand on the Sturbridge Common, which is enjoyed by all, was conceived, constructed and donated to the town by the Sturbridge Lions Club. We have provided candy and been judges for the towns annual Halloween party for the past several years. We host the ALL AMERICAN RIVER RACE the last weekend of April, one of the oldest and largest in New England.
We are non-denominational and have no political party affiliation. If you are looking for an opportunity to make a positive difference in your community, consider becoming a member of the Sturbridge Lions Club. We meet every second and fourth Tuesday evenings of the month at 7:00PM at the Publick House on Sturbridge Common. Should you like more information about becoming a member, you can call Membership Chairman Robert Briere at 508-347-3788 or email to briererabbit@verizon.net or sturbridgelionsclub@gmail.com
