With every fantasy story
comes a new world. Those of us who are new to this world
can often get lost. So to guide you through Taski's
world, I offer you this: Background:
Places|Magic|History
Places
Aonatsu- a country on the other side of
the Northern Mountains. They tend to have dark hair and
eyes. The Tsubasa, Suiheisen, and Date families all have
their roots in this country. Aonatsu may be considered
Japanese in origin, and the name means "Blue Summer"
in that tongue.
Azterra- generic name for the world as a
whole.
Cailleach- a country north of Ifarna.
The people are typically blond or red-haired with light
eyes. Taski and Kaoru's grandmother Ilsoun is from this
country. Midori appears Cailleach, but she hasn't told
anyone where she is really from.
Debushae- a city of the Aelfinn.
Caranthir is a ranking prophet here, and the Taniquetil's
have much influence in the city.
Ifarna- a country to the east of the
Free States, south of Cailleach. It's people are darker
than other countries, although they have mingled with the
Cailleach over the years. Women are considered the equal
of men here, and often rise to positions of power through
military service. Kora and Mia Siffone are from this
country.
Korimshi- a town in the Free States. It
was destroyed years ago during an attack by Nagroth and
Keldaer. It is now only a crated hole with a few houses
standing in the outreaches. There were fourteen
survivors, all of them children. Taski Date as one of
these children.
Lallantay- a city in the Free States
known for it's research centers. It is the only city in
the world with a center for magical study. Many children
attend school here at any age and for any subject.
Mierin- a port-town in the Free States.
It is home to the only true temple to Erendis, the
Erendishae Tower, and the only Tsubasaken school outside
of Aonatsu.
Takerin- an academic town in the Free
States. It is home to many school, the most famous of
which is the all-girls school, the Takerin Academy. Most
of the Date's live here.
The Free States- an area west of Ifarna.
A collection of small city-states that maintain a unified
front against their more belligerent neighbors.
The Three Corner Stone- a large monument
where the corners of Cailleach, Ifarna, and the Free
States meet.
Magic
Magic is a very rare ability. Only priests were taught to
call upon the forces of the world, and even that practice
is waning. Among the priesthoods that continue teaching
magic are the Erendishae, because their purpose is to go
out and fight the evils of the world, and not all evils
will oblige them by dying with only a few swordstrokes.
Unlike human culture, the Aelfinn culture nourishes magic.
Magic is the birthright of every Aelfinn, just like their
wings. But the priest class in particular fosters magic.
While magic is a right of Aelfinn, it is the lifeblood of
the prophets.
Magic is divided into many schools, depending on the
effect it produces. While it is mostly an offensive
skill, such as the flame arrow Taski can use and Dane's
favored icicles, the lower Aelfinn classes have worked
magic into their daily lives, and have created many
effect spells to help them in their work.
(*perhaps describe some of the spells here?*)
