History: Those Who Fell From
the Sky Creation Mythology of Azterra as translated by Caranthir'ailrisshel Taniquetil Long ago, before there were even men as we know them, there was the Moon. She was not the Moon then. She was merely "ne'Tellar", the World. She was home to many things then, and it was here that the Aelfinn were born. All the first races were formed of thought- the thoughts of the goddess of ne'Tellar, whom they simply called Mother. Among these first races were the Dragons, the Unicorns, the Elves, the Athsat, and the Aelfinn. They lived happily until the coming of Pelmuri. Pelmuri hated the Mother, for he could not create, being the essence of evil, and he hated in extension all of her children. But somehow, he beguiled the Athsat leaders and they grew to believe in him. We Aelfinn have no comprehension as to how that passed. But throught the Athsat's fondness of him, he was able to get close to the Mother, and attack her. The Mother was wounded beyond recovery, but had enough power to repulse him, and begin her greatest work- Azterra, her daughter. Azterra grew in size and strength while Pelmuri licked his own wounds from the battle. She became, in her physical form, a world lush with forest and blue with oceans. The Mother's first children prepared to leave her, and go to Azterra. But while they prepared, long years passed. Creatures were born onto Azterra, grew, and over the long years changed. One of these creatures became the first humans. So it was that when the Aelfinn, the Elves, and the remaining good Athsat came in their flying ships to Azterra's lands, the humans were there to see them, and called them the Beings from Heaven. They were frightened, and attacked. The Firstcomers fought back. The ground where they fought was stained with their blood. The races who should have been allies were sundered forever. So it was that the races split apart and grew mistrustful of each other, until the Elves retreated far from all others and the Aelfinn built their cities far from Men. Finally the Athsat, driven mad by the mistrust and the remnants of their treachery, attacked the Aelfinn and tried to capture the last remaining flying ships. They were thrust by a Circle of the Aelfinn's greatest priests into another world, only tenuously connected to this one. There they will remain, outcast as their Lord was, until the end of time. Caranthir's Notes: One should never let mere historians write the histories. This child's fable is hardly suitable as a chronicle of our race, and my petitions to the Elders say as much. Besides which, the writer completely ignores the existance of the Kestamral (Returning) Theory, as well as the Asara Prophecy, which, although obscure, is currently showing all the signs of being fulfilled in my lifetime- no thanks to me. |
