Love Poem

She kneels in the soil
in front of his house,
pulling weeds
from the neglected garden,
occasionally launching rocks at his bedroom window.
He goes to the front door
and, though his tongue is still
thick in his mouth from sleep,
attempts to shout
until he sees that it is her who is misbehaving.
The earth is warm between his toes and the grass
tickles his ankles
as he comes to her.
He picks her up
and spins around with her in his arms,
giving the neighbors a view
of her underwear beneath her dress,
for which he receives a smack upside the head.
She combs his hair with her fingers
while whispering in his ear
and lets herself be kissed.

Notes: This one was an assignment for Writing class to write a love poem without saying the word "Love." I had a horrible time with it, being the bitter old lady I am (^_-) until I thought as my characters. This is Berzhingyon and Morayne, for those of you who know them^_^
