A Brief History
IMA
Thalassery (Tellicherry) Branch has a very long and glorious
history and it is one of the most important and active branches of IMA,
in
the state of Kerala. It was earlier known as North Malabar Branch and was
formed in the year 1952 with Dr (Maj.) T.K.Narayanan, as the founder
president and Dr P.K.Narayanan, as the secretary. The other earlier leaders
of this branch were Dr C.Raman, Dr K.T.P.Nambiar, Dr.Mohd.Hussain, Dr
E.K.P.Nambiar and Dr O.K.Keshavan.
In the year 1964 Thalassery branch was carved from the North Malabar
branch.of IMA. Since the formation of IMA Thalassery branch it has been
in the thick of major activities under great leaders like Dr.Mohd.Hussain,
Dr.O.K.Keshavan, Dr.M.Mohammed, Dr.
V.Bharathan, Dr K.K.Pokker, Dr M.A.Sundaram,
Dr.Devarajan, Dr.N.K.Sahadevan, Dr.Abdul Latheef, Dr.M.Abdul Khader,&
Dr.Albert
Kallat in the earlier years.
It has grown all these years in size and quality and now it has 234 active
members. Thalassery IMA is proud to announce that it has it's own building
at side the national highway near the sea shore, which is a very beautiful
area of Thalassery .
It was during the period of Dr.V.Bharathan as the President, the land for
the IMA Hall was procured. Dr. M.A.Sundaram was the founder Chairman of
the Building committee with Dr.M.Mohammad, Dr.Bharathan, Dr.Devarajan,
Dr.Abdul Khader, Dr.Abdul Latheef, as committee members under whom
the Building was built. Dr.P.V.George’s contribution for the Hall is
recorded as great and the Hall is named after this great IMA man.
In the year 2000-2001 Dr.M.K.Arun Kumar as the President, the Hall has
been renovated to keep up with the demands of changing times.
IMA Thalassery Branch is the one of the active branches in Kerala state.
It has won the S.S Rao Shield
under the Presidency of Dr. N.K.Sahadevan and Dr.Abdul Latheef as the
Secretary in the year 1975-76. IMA Thalassery is involved in the many of
the social activities of this area Dr.T.N.Babu
Raveendran, one of our supreme leaders was the president of IMA Kerala State
in 1992-93. Dr.Mohammad Abdulla was the Vice President in 1996-97.
IMA Thalassery has a Thalassery Chapter of IMA AMS as a sub faculty.
The branch meets regularly for academic discussion and association
matters.
The membership strength, the activities and an excellent leadership make
the Thalassery IMA, one of the impressive branches of Kerala.
