2000 to 2009 was an exciting and defining decade for high school football in Wisconsin. The internet age has opened new opportunities to share stats, stories and opinions of over 430 teams around the state. The decade began with the state's private and parochial schools being brought into the fold of the WIAA after the WISAA dissolved after the 1999-2000 school year. The WIAA playoff format has remained consistent throughout this period with 7 divisions and a total field of 224 teams particiating in each post-season tournament. Stratford created a new standard for a championship dynasty, winning six consecutive Division 6 state titles from 2003-2008. With a 119-12 record in the decade, the Stratford Tigers win our "Team of the Decade" honor. Honorable mention goes to Waunakee. With two state titles (2002 & 2009) in four trips to Camp Randall Stadium, the Warriors also won 87 of 89 regular season games in ten years.

The End of an Era
In addition to the end of WISAA, other changes occurred, including the end of Antigo High School's 88 year membership in the elite Wisconsin Valley Conference. An original member of the loop in 1920, the Redbirds collected 23 Wisconsin Valley Titles, 3 mythical state titles in the early 1970's and were the first WIAA Division 1 State Champion back in 1976. Gordie Schofield's Redbirds also won state titles in 1978 and 1982. The last conference title came in 1992 and Antigo pulled out of the conference after the 2007-2008 school year. 89-year members Rhinelander and Merrill left the conference after the 2008-2009 school year.

Wisconsin top two leaders in coaching victories, Milwaukee Marquette's Dick Basham and St. Mary's Springs' Bob Hyland capped off 2009 with perfect 14-0 championship seasons for their respective teams. Basham now has 350 wins in his hip pocket, Hyland has 348.
