My Trip to Monster Island

One of the first major considerations in planning a summer tournament was the issue of the rules. The Halloween Foosball Committee decided that the Sunkist Championship and its sister tournament, the Holiday Foosball Tournament (which has yet to be held), would each have their own unique set of rules separate from eachother and from the Halloween Foosball Tournament.

The biggest change in the SC from the HFT is the use of timed games. Instead of playing to a set number of points like in the Halloween Foosball Tournament, the Sunkist Championship was to feature games with time limits. Whoever had the most goals at the end of the set time limit would win the game. The clock would only stop for timeouts, referee timeouts, and after a goal was scored.

The tournament set up would be also different from the HFT. This has yet to be set in stone since we don't know how many people will be competing, but the plan was to have the Big Four (Corey, Greg, Jim, and Steve) each recieve byes into the round of 8. The other competitors would compete in round robin brackets in order to fill out the other 4 spots. Then once the round of 8 is set it would be a double elimination tournament from there on out.

A third aspect of the Sunkist Championship as it was supposed to be held in May 2002 was that it was to be the first ever outdoor HFT sponsored tournament. Unfortunately the original Halloween Foosball table didn't survive the elements too well, so odds are that this tournament will be held indoors, and the committee won't soon rush to move the foosball table outside again.

DATE: TBA 2003

LOCATION: Lowell, MA

But it was all worth it, Monster Island was the best vacation I've ever had. Being able to walk up to a 20 foot high bug was just about the coolest thing in the world. I thought the giant ape and other "Monsters" on the island would be in cages, or inaccessible, but tare quite friendly and accessible.
