My first marriage
by Gail

It ended suddenly, with one flash of insight,
but quietly, without tearful accusations
or shattered plates or cold words.
I wasn't even with my husband at the time.
It was so simple, just the sight of my wedding ring,
bright gold against brown skin,
and I arched my back to my lover's thrusts
and thought before I stopped thinking,
I like this.
