WILLIE GARNTO sometimes used the name "Willie G. Garnto" even though he did not actually have a middle name.
Note: Pa Willie Garnto liked to play practical jokes. Like the time he saw two old black women fishing at the creek. Pa Willie emptied his pockets and handed over everything to his wife, Ma Emmie. Then he sneaked up stream and got into the water, still wearing all of his clothes, and floated downstream. The women saw him and screamed, "Lawd have mercey, its a dead man!!"
They threw down their fishing poles and ran for their lives.

Children of WILLIE GARNTO and EMMIE WILLIAMS GARNTO:
1. Evelyn Lucile Garnto
2. Avis Esteen Garnto
When Evelyn was little, her Daddy, Pa Willie, had some delicious looking cakes of chewing tobacco, and she just thought it looked yummy. (It does kind of look like a brownie). She wanted to try it. So she talked her sister, Avis, into sneaking some with her and chewing it. They knew not to swollow any of the tobacco juice. Chew and spit; they had seen it done lots of times, but Evelyn got sick anyway. Extremely sick. It was strange how it didn't bother Avis at all.
So Evelyn was vomiting and Ma Emmie wanted to know what in the world was wrong with her. She told her mother she did not know why she was so sick, it must be the tea. Ma Emmie went inside and got the sweet tea and poured all of it out. It might be contaminated! If Ma Emmie had known what was really going on they would have both gotten a good switching. Not only had they been a-lyin' and a-stealin' but a-chewin' as well. Years later, Avis confessed that she did not get sick that day because she had chewed some of her daddy's tobacco before . . . lots of times, she was used to it."
