Bear was simply AWESOME!
My sterling lead dog he was a lovely structured dog with a great coat, gorgeous head, perfect ears and a fantastic working attitude.
Bear excelled in the show ring earning his Australian Championship and winning many BOB and Class In Group awards along the way. Bear won Best head dog, Best Gait and Best Tail property classes at AMCV Open Shows and several best brace awards with his mother "Tedra" at AMCV Championship Shows. At the 2006 AMCV Championship Show under Breed Specialist "Shilon Bedford - USA" Bear was awarded 1st place in the Australian Bred Dog Class out of a high quality field of 11, he then went on to win the AMCV's show point score 'Australian Bred Dog' Section for 2006. In 2009 at the NSWAMC Specialty he also performed well winning "Best Owner/Breeder/Handler and placing 2nd in the Working dog Sweepstakes.
In harness Bear really came to the fore as lead dog of the winning Snowsteeds team. Bear was known out on the track for his perfect turns, super clean passes and probably the most impressive was his ability to lead the team calmly into the start chute without the need for handlers.
He was the leader trainer for our teams, educating our young guns on what it takes to be a lead dog. Bear completed his Working Team Dog and Working Lead Dog Titles and was accepted on the AMCV's "Register of Achievement".
Despite all these achievements the best thing about Bear was his loyal , loving attitude, he was definately my best boy and will always have a very special place in my heart. Sadly and tragically I lost Bear in April of 2010 due to complications from a Tiger snake bite. Ironically I said goodbye to this precious boy in the same spot on the veterinary clinic floor as I did to his father. Heart breaking and devastating to all of us at Snowsteeds.
Bear produced Obedience Winners (at 5 months old one of his progeny won not only class 1 but won the highest score over all with a score of 99.7 out of 100 in his first competition) , show class winners and some wonderful sled dogs from the two litters he sired. We can't wait to see what these brainy, beautiful dogs can do in the future. They hit the race track in 2009 and performed superbly, taking everything in their stride just like their Dad.
A limited amount of Bears Frozen Semen is available. Bear had excellent hips and elbows and Australian and NZ Ch'd certification.
