Reno National Championship Air Races 1999

In 1999 my buddy Phil and I got the opportunity to attend the National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada. We had a great time. Here are a few pics we took while down there. More coming!

Miss America at Sunrise

Early morning was the best time for taking pictures of the individual planes. Sunrise happened very fast, and I had to work hard to catch the "magic light". This P-51 is perhaps the most experienced Unlimited Air Racer still racing....Her name is Miss America and she has one of the most gorgeous paint schemes. I've got lots of pictures of her...

T6 Action

The T-6 Texan (also known as the AT-6, SNJ or Harvard) races were some of the funnest to watch. Very strict rules as to what is allowable in modifications make these very close races....a pilot race if you will. A lot of fun, and those big radials sound great as they run by!

The Unlimiteds

The big draw at Reno is always the Unlimited Class. The Unlimiteds are generally warbirds that have been specially modified for racing. These two are piloted by best friends and they had an incredible race. The near aircraft is named "September Pops" after a B-24 the pilot's grandfather flew in WWII!
