Rainbow Trout fishing on the
Upper Kenai River, Fall 2002

In the late fall of 2002 Bryan Lee and I floated the Upper Kenai river in his drift boat from the Russian River boat launch to Jim's Landing. It was a fun trip, and my only fishing trip in all of 2002. I'm hoping he and I can get together and do it again in 2003!

A view upstream towards the rising sun as we
just launched the boat. A chilly but
beautiful morning!

Now a view downstream from the launch.
The mists were clearing ahead of us and
we looked forward to a fun time.

A view past my fishing pole as we near
one of the good holes. Bryan did all the
rowing. I felt bad about that, but it did
give me the opportunity to fish a lot!

Looking at a rockwall we fished just above.
The water was chilly that morning, but didn't
bother us in our neoprene waders. However,
it seemed like the fish were in a coma because
of it!

Here's Bryan toiling away at the oars. One thing
I did notice is that he could make that boat do things
I would have needed an outboard for! The quiet and
manueverability were uncanny!

Another, better view of the rockwall.

Finally, FISH-ON! Bryan hooks up with a
nice Rainbow Trout. The Upper Kenai is
catch and release only for these beauties.

Getting tired now, this 'bow put up a good
ruckus.

Released to be fished again another day. Bryan ended up catching
two 'bows and a Dolly Varden to my zip. I had seen several nice
Rainbows in the clear water, but couldn't entice them to smack any
fly in my flybox. Heck, I passed a fly so close to one nice 'bow so many
times he finally spooked when one of my flies finally bounced off of his
nose! All in all, an absolutely FANTASTIC day of fishing!
