Appendix.
Map of German Dynastic Claims.

Areas which retain the greatest concentration of Gothic & E-Germanic remnants are-
SUEVI, MARCOMANNI, QUADI, LANGOBARDI-  Savoy, Swabia [Black Forest], Brandenburg, E-Saxony, Bavaria, Tyrol, Leon, Cantabria, Galicia, W-Hungary, Vienna, Lombardy.
BURGUNDI-  Burgundaholm [Baltic Island], W-Pomerania [Pomeralia], Burgundy, W-Switzerland, Croatia.
GOTHS, VISIGOTHS, OSTROGOTHS-   Gotland [Baltic Island], Romania, N-Bulgaria, Crete, Montenegro, Croatia, Venice, Adriatic Italy, Rome, Provence, Aquitaine, Gascony, Toulouse, Languedoc, Aragon, Madrid.
VANDALS-  Andalucia, Corsica, Sardinia, NE-Hungary.
East Germanic peoples tend to be dark-eyed with full mouths, high cheek bones and heavy frames.  Because they lived on the boarders of Finnish & Avar lands, many have Eurasian features.
The FRANKS  and RHEINLANDERS were 'High German' tribes of north central origin, with some Celto-Teutonic admixture.   Principal remnant areas are-  Alsace, Lorraine, Champagne, Rheinland, Franconia, Westphalia. They tend to be tall, willowy and fair or reddish haired.
ANGLES, SAXONS, JUTES & FRISII  were the principal W-Germanic ['Low German'] tribes, with remnants dominating all areas close to the North Sea.  They tend to be blond, blue-eyed and sallow-skinned.

In 806 Charlemagne divided the Frankish Empire among his three sons. The Eastern Franks of Austrasia were separated from their Western Frank kinsmen in Neustria by the buffer 'corridor state' of LOTHARINGIA,  incorporating the Belgians of the Low Countries, and the Goths of Provence. When a new dynasty arose in Austrasia under Otto I in 939, the East Frankish lands became the Kingdom of Germany, and the descendants of Lothar, son of Charlemagne, the 'Dukes of Lothringen [Lorraine]'.
