Chapter Introduction

Along with e-mail, the World Wide Web is the main reason most people bother with the Internet, and it is one of the most important reasons that people have home computers at all. Windows XP includes Internet Explorer 6, the latest version of the world's most popular Web browser, as well as an MSN-specific version called MSN Explorer. You also have the option of using other, non-Microsoft browsers.

This chapter explains some of the basic concepts of the World Wide Web and describes how to set up Internet Explorer, remember your favorite Web sites, configure it according to your tastes, use it to browse Web pages, and search for new sites. We also explain how to tell Internet Explorer to fill Web forms in automatically, set colors, set your start page, and control privacy settings. Although Windows XP doesn't come with a Web page editor, its Web Publishing Wizard can help you upload files to the Web.
