What Is a Folder Template?

Some folders look and behave differently from others. A folder of pictures or music, for example, can be set up to have special links in the Task pane or special display properties so that it is easy for you to find the file you want and do what you want with it. A folder template is a predefined set of properties that you can choose to apply to a folder. Windows XP comes with six folder templates: documents, pictures, photo album, music, music artist, and music album.

The default folder template is for documents. You can choose a different template from the Customize tab of a folder's Properties dialog box.
