Chapter 18: Working with Graphics
What Tools Does Windows Provide for Working with Images? Windows XP gives you more tools for working with images than any previous version of Windows.
- My Pictures folder is a subfolder of My Documents. It is the natural place in the Windows filing system to keep digital photos, pictures, graphics, and other images. Microsoft has preconfigured the viewing options in the My Pictures folder to make it easy for you to sort through pictures.
- Windows Picture And Fax Viewer is the default application for viewing image files. You can also use it to annotate images stored in .tif files.
- Microsoft Paint is an application for drawing and coloring. It also allows you to crop photos or transform images from one file format to another.
- Scanner And Camera Wizard sets up Windows to work with a scanner or digital camera. This Wizard starts automatically when you plug a digital camera into your computer's USB or other port.
- Photo Printing Wizard leads you through the process of printing pictures on a printer. It produces pictures in all the standard photo sizes and arranges them on a page so that you get as many pictures as possible on each sheet of paper. Start this Wizard by selecting Print Pictures from the Picture Tasks section of the Task pane of the My Pictures folder, by right-clicking any image file and choosing Print from the shortcut menu, or by clicking the Print button on the toolbar of the Windows Picture And Fax Viewer.
- Web Publishing Wizard helps you upload your pictures (or other files) to a free Web site where your friends and family anywhere in the world can view them. Start this Wizard by displaying the file(s) you want to publish in an Explorer window and then selecting Publish This Folder To The Web from the Folder Tasks list on the Task pane.
- Online Print Ordering Wizard leads you through the process of choosing an online photo service, sending them your image files, and placing an order for prints. Start this Wizard by selecting Order Prints Online from the Picture Tasks list of the Task pane of the My Pictures folder or any folder containing the pictures you want made into prints.
